no clear coat. that way i can polish em back up if they dull out. I'll let you know how long it lasts without it.

As far as polishing, I did my frame and the swing arm is polished also. Just a touch up of mothers er now and again and a coat of Carnuba wax and your all good.

I did the rims on my R1 when I had it. I mean the whole rim... not just the lips. It's not to bad until you get to the casting marks on the spokes and hub. It didn't turn out to bad, but was a lot of upkeep. This isn't the best pic but I know how ya'll love pics and it's the only one I have.

Yeah, Actually I sprayed stripper on it, then went with 1000. I am planning on getting a billet shortened Kickstand.

how about the clutch cover. I'm torn between chrome and polishing. Save $$$$ or save elbow

Clutch cover was chromed. The effort you put into polishing in the onset makes the up keep easier. I just take a cotton ball and wipe with Mothers once and a while. It even can get wet and and doesnt rust up (now)
