Two-Up Riding Mods

Hi guys/gals,

Long time lurker looking to get feedback from those of you who ride two up most of the time. Looking to tweak things so that it is more comfortable for the type of sport touring I do with the wife on the back (90% of my riding).

It would also be helpfull if you mentioned general sizes - for example I am 5'9" and a bit under 200lbs, wife is 5'6" and medium build (married 25 years and I still dont know what she weighs).

What works and what doesn't?

Thanks and be safe out there!

I ride with my daughter. me 6'4" 235, her...13.
-Tobins(keeps her on bike)
-Added 1 inch to rear suspension and set up for weight. links not necessary
-Re did front suspension for my weight(wasn't necessary, but was very nice at Bash!)
-Autocom. It was nice to coach her through the dragon. Even talking on longer rides is great.

Enjoy!

I had my rear seat done by Tobin. Overal adds comfort just by having it re-padded. He also added a riser in the back which I am told is a great help to prevent sliding back in the seat. Also adjust your rear shock settings to reflect the higher weight. I also have two helmets rigged up with comm ability. Nice to be able to talk back and forth. It has a privacy feature to sahut her up if she starts screaming.......lol.

That is all I have done so far.

Oh yeah I am 6'6" @ around 230. Rear riders vary in sizes but I will tell you that the Busa does seem to be wieght sensitive in handling. I REALLY feel the difference in the turns. Comparitively speaking, my cruiser, doesn't seem to act any different with 2 up on her.

Corbin rear seat with backrest, Chatterbox with intercom, and cortech saddlebags to carry the extra stuff

i'm 6'0 245 and she is 5'3, weight also unknown but the Icon go-go chaps i just bought look smokin........ on a side note, for the last two years two up for us is me on mine and her on hers.

I have lowered my bike 1.25" front and rear (handle bar risers, dog bones rear). I weigh about 145lb, and my girl weighs like 160lb (hmm... hope she doesn't read this). No adjustments to the rear shock or front shocks the the busa rides great 2up. Most of my riding is just me, but when she's on the back it still handles like a dream, and no bottoming out.

+1 on the Tobins-those seats make a HUGE difference! keeps my wife from flyin off tha back when I 'give it sumpin'

also got new re-valved rear shock/spring combo from Greg @ HPC (i needed new spring cuz Im stretched 9" over n lowered) tha wife said it rides better now than it did w/OEM shock at stock wheelbase! kudos to Greg on that one

I need to do the front forks too-next on list (bike is setup for 160lb-ish riders, so if you're 200lb +gear you could def. benefit from new springs/oil/seals) right now I'm adding the AutoCom i just picked up from MC Mustang cuz like PD sed-just makes trips more interesting when you're not stuck using f**kd up sign-language to talk with your passenger

other than that-mebbe a sissy-bar attachment if your pass. wants to lean back a bit-talk to LEO (member here) i rode with him n he has a real hi-quality unit but I cant remember where its from...PM him I'm sure he'd give you the 411

the best thing i did for my comfort for riding 2 up was trading my 180lb and growing girlfriend in on a few different 110 to 120 lb girls so much more comfortable for me and less stress i know i know

I can't say anything bad about this or wish you to the corner. Hubby and I have been married 13 years and this is the second Busa owned.

I recently lost 50 lbs. and can attest that comfort on the back is so very much better! I seat on the stock passenger seat (I just learned what a Corbin and/or Tobin is..Thanks .Org!!), and that stock seat is so much easier to sit on now that I weigh less! The dropped pounds also help for an overall more comfortable ride!

The only thing I really would like is a communications system. This morning we were commuting to work on the bike, and while stopped in traffic hubby asked me a question. I started to answer and I hear "Hey you have to flip open your lid before you can talk!!" HeeHee!

Another Corbin here. Both mine and the passenger are Corbins. Back has the back rest as well. Hump in the Corbin keeps the passenger from sliding forward onto your back. I think my GF was really into the hump too?

Ebayed a pillion seat for the wife and had a local put hi-density foam in it for the long rides .

Been years ago so i forget which model Honda i switched the rear footpegs out for , but they were a direct fit and a good bit longer than those toothpick like OEM pegs. Might have been from a VFR800 though .

After all these years and miles been thinking about going modern and getting some type communication system --- not really

I sure like the Cycle Venture pack system and Nelson Rigg soft bags for two up long trips . With tankbag and all we sure can load the bike down .

I bought a matching Green Pearl VTX. I don not like to have anyone on the Busa because of my adiction to high speed. Also not real comfy for my wife, she is sexy enough how ever to look good on either bike.

+1 on the Corbin seat with backrest!!!

Made my wife feel 100% more safe and stable--- before she felt as if she might come off at times but it holds her in place and lets me juice it a little more now!!

Also, Autocomm all the way----- Like Big D said, I got tired of trying to use the stupid hand signals=== paid a little more for the Autocomm, but we can comfortably talk at whatever speed now- Chris
