valklex, if you look further down the side of the tire you will see the "j" designation. Yes the r is there but you will see the "J" in an oval circle........

Got it VD. One more issue: I hear people changing rear tires at the rate of 2 for each front tire. If you are going to change the rear tire for the first time and leave the front since it has plenty of life left, do you need to replace the rear for an identical one, or can you put a different tire same brand (eg. Bridgestone BT57 for longer life)?
GSXGuy: How does your avons compare with stock, especially mileage? They have an awesome tread design.

Some people have used different tires with some success, however i dont feel comfortable doing it. I always use the same type of tire front and rear. If you use different tires and they each have different gripping characteristics, in a curve one tire or the other may break loose and down you go.........the way i ride i dont want to leave anything to chance............

Hey DM ,They do work on the Bus and they handle the bumps better than any tire I`ve tried.Considering the abuse these tires have seen I am pretty impressed.I tried and tried to spin the ****ers off corner exits and all I get are wheelies :)I just have to try the Mich Pilots though I`ve heard many great things about them.

Dm, I have the Avons on mine now, they were actually recommended to me by Metzler because the MEZ3 and Pilot Sports were not available in Japan. Amazing difference to the D207 and OEM tyres. The D207 was just braking away far too much in the cold weather. The Avon tyre has restored my confidence now and hasn't let go once yet, even when cold. The bike is really flickable now with these on. Will try pilots when they make it to these shores.

Dazee, I'm well aware of the stick of Azaros! I was doing a new era (racing club) testing day, at a short circuit in the UK called Mallory Park. (on my R1 BTW)
Mallory has what is probably the fastest turn of any track in the UK, over 180 degress radius at 120+ MPH.

My Metzelers chewed up and span up round there giving me more than my fair share of scares. I switched over to a pair of standard Avon Azaro (AV36/AV35s) not the sports compound, the difference in grip was amazing, I had the pegs, my knee and the exhaust can decked all the way round - I was going round the outside of race bikes wearing 207GPs!

The real shocker is on the road where the rear Azaros lasted 4-5 thousand miles against 800-1200 miles from the MEZs.

For me to switch away from them to the Pilots tells you a lot about the Pilots!
