Ultilitarian to my Busa

I'm looking to get another car and I posted this on the Bimmer board, but I maybe able to get some knowledgable advice here from those that know either or both of these cars.

'Need help from you Bimmer Heads. I'm in the process of getting a new car. I have my eyes on the entry level, so I'm only looking for either a 2006 BMW 325 OR a Infiniti G35, both in manual tranny. This will be a ultilitarian vehicle for me because whenever I can I ride my Suzuki Hayabusa as a main form of transportation in this traffic ridden town we call Los Angeles. It will mainly be used when I: go out with my girlfriend, grocery shopping, can't ride because it's too cold, too hot, or too wet from rain. So the only thing I want to upgrade is the headlamps to Xenon (I upgraded my Hayabusa to that and am hooked on the visibility at night, plus I do have astigmatism).

I've not gotten a quote on the G35 yet, but a BMW dealership in downtown L.A. quoted me $33720 out the door price (but will take 10 weeks to build because what I'm asking for doesn't exist on the west coast).

Few questions:

#1. Is $33720 OTD a good price for a basic 325 sedan, manual tranny, xenon, everything else standard?

#2. I'm not really concerned all that much about the "ultimate driving machine" because I have my ultimate riding machine (the Hayabusa), but still would like a lively car. So can I also get that from the G35? I heard for the approximate same price, there's more features that's standard than the BMW.

#3. I don't remember where, but I heard that BMW has a myrid of mechanical problems, consuming 1 quart of engine oil in 2000 miles, little knick-knack problems like blown brake lights, signal lights, etc... Is the mechanical reliability of a BMW really inferior to the famous Japanese reliable cars?

Your input is appreciated.

By the way, I'm not the type of guy that likes to change cars all the time. That's why I'll finance and keep it until I decide to give it away. My current car, 1997 Acura 2.2cl manual tranny that still runs like a champ and good aesthetic condition is going to my girlfriend.'

I used to work at BMW and yes eventually you will have to open up the pocket book. We use to say there were 2 different types of Bimmer customers. The ones that said "get it done" and the pretenders. Those were the ones that would kick and cry about having to fix their car saying it cost too much. They just pretended they had money. But aside from that BMW's are reliable vehicles.

My 2 cents

Iv'e had an Ivory Pearl white G35 5AT since 2003 and I love it. It's a hell of a car for the price and handles like a real sports sedan should. For '05 they made some cosmetic changes on the inside and out plus they added a 298hp engine to th 6MT's. Most people think that only the coupes are fast but the sedans are just as fast as the coupes and are actually lighter (I have tested this personally just to make sure, hehe

). You said you asked the question at a bimmer board so I think you should do the same at a G board

My wife has a 01 325i. Excellent vehicle. There has been a few problems but nothing major. BMW warranty has bent over backwards to help us out.

If we buy another 3 series, we will get the 330 for the more HP.

a lot of it is the service dept. as well; the two different dealerships I've gone to for service on my Range Rover couldn't be any different from each other. Worth the extra distance to drive to the competent one.

My neighbor has the 35, and loves it, btw. I'll ask them this weekend how it's been for service etc. and let you know.

Having a very extensive background in the auto industry, I will tell you that you will not beat the solid drive of the BMW. The 325 feels like a more expensive car than what it is. But in overall car the G35 will blow the BMW out of the water. From negotiation to long term servie you will not be able to beat the G35. If you have any questions feel free to email me vizionquest2k@hotmail.com.

I have the G35 Sedan. Great car had it since 2002 no problems with it. Infiniti service is great drop car off, get loaner come back and pick up car. More room in the G35.:)

I am a BMW fan but would suggest the G35. Since you don't have kids, get the G35 Coupe, you will really enjoy it. I don't know if it is true but I have heard and read rumors that the G35 will be made AWD with a Turbo option to replace the Skyline which is very expensive to import into the US.

the G35 was supposed to take place of the Skyline, but i heard that the skyline is going to be made in a year or two, but it will still cost an arm and a leg.

RX-8! RX-8! RX-8!
Getcha a manual ST or GT... comes with zeon lights.
If ya can drive, you'll be chasing down sportbikes on the twisties!

It is true that a version of the Skyline will make it's debut here in the states. Cost is going to be upwards of $80,000 U.S.

I dont want to be a bubble burster, but the G35 is the American Skyline

. My two cents get the G35, and as for the RX-8 no offense, but stock RX-8 vs. G35 or a 3 series BMW doesnt stand a chance. I've driven all 3, and prefered the G35 over both. Goodluck

Ive driven the new RX-8 and was not impressed. They only have 197 hp and 164 ft lbs tq. Yeah they are light but the G35 has about 100 hp more, and i think the G35 is a better looking car. I dont know about the G35, but in the RX-8 you have to put 91 octane fuel in it.
