Uniden Beartracker BCT12????

We have both the 6599 radar detector and the Bear12 working side by side in both our car and truck since we bought both units for $250 via their website. Was pleased with the Bear12 when we used it going to Streets Vibrations in Reno Neveda. We were alerted of a CHP in hiding with the Bear12 and slowed down to normal speed when his RADAR gun hit us from his hiding place between some bush in the center lane of HWY 80 going back to California.

Anyone have any experience with this?

The BearTracker is a sophisticated
highway alarm system that responds
to radio waves emitted from special
secondary transmitters installed on
most highway patrol vehicles across
the U.S. The BCT-12 alarm system
informs you both visually and audibly
when activity is detected. It also
determines signal strength to inform
you of the presence and distance of
highway patrol vehicles even if they're
not using radar

I have had one for about 3 years. I loved the idea, and saw a favorable writeup in a car mag. It doesn't work as well as they said. It does work fairly well as a scanner, but I've had numerous highway patrol drive by me without the unit making a sound. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
The idea is that you are alerted by any radio presence on the frequency in your immediate area.

I won't go anywhere without my Valentine 1 radar detector, but my BCT-12 sits in a box in my garage. Reason? The V-1 works better than advertised, while the Uniden Bct-12 doesn't work as well. Hope this helps. If someone is really determined to have a BCT-12, I'd sell mine cheap.
