Unsquid me please...

If you can go to a cycle gear the have Frank Thomas and have it on sale alot of times, bought my GF a set of leather pants that was normally 179.00 for 79.00 the other day and a pair of boots that was regularly 180.00 for 100.00.

In my years of riding I have accumulated lots of gear. Tons actually.

Here is my advice:

Look at jackets like a Spidi or Vanson. You get a good jacket for $500 to $600 that will last a long time. Get a pair of Vanson or Draggin Jeans, Sidi or AlpineStars boots, gloves, Alipnestars back protector (or similar), ear plugs, and a helmet. For 95% of your riding that is all you will need.

You probably don't need leather parts with pucks and stuff in them for the street unless you are running the Tail of the Dragon at uber-speeds or something---this is just my opinion. The jeans with kevlar in them will do just fine without the "boy racer" look. I used to wear my Spidi 1-piece race suit on the road and got a lot of crazy looks...and attracted cops as well wondering what I was doing:-) I would say that your protection is paramount to the way you look or others opinions...so buy good gear.

So for me:

Helmets---AGV, Shoei, or Arai
Jacket----AlpineStars, Spidi, or Vanson
Back Protector---Bohn or Alpinestars
Boots---Alpinstars or Sidi (my fav)
Gloves---Lot's of choices.
Pants---Vanson or Draggin Jeans...or leather if you find a good pair.

I just went and got fitted for a custom LSR suit from Tiltracing.com with a spine protector it cost me .....Are you ready for this........$422.00. When it arrives I will post some pics.

Everytime I look for gear I get overhwlmed by the choices and give up.

What is a good suit for mostly street riding? I prefer leathers since they work the best and would need boots as well. For the suit I was looking to spend $500, is that just a pipe dream?

Thanks

With gear where there is a will there is a way. Craig's List and eBay are your friends. I got a Alpinestars MX-1 1p full leather suit for cheap. Got some Alpinestars GP2 gloves for $40 new in the package etc. The key here is to commit to a brand or a type and then beat down the internet for a few hours.

I've been riding now for about 3 years and have started to collect like some others have mentioned. When I first started out I polled alot of people. Only one guy's opinion stood out over the others and I am really glad I listened. Aerostich Roadcrafter. The Roadcrafter, Arai Corsair 7, Alpinestars GP2 gloves and some Alpinestars SMX boots on close out made up my only riding gear. Or about $1,200 at the time. Worth every cent in a crash! Don't skimp on gear. In my highside, on my way to work I had a purple toe nail and a bruise on my right shine where I caught the handle bar or the right mirror stalk and broke it in half. The gear did it's job.

The Roadcrafter is truely an all season all purpose suit. It is well thought out and practical. I have lowsided it twice and highsided it once. The suit is still in good working order after seeing some 15,000 miles of riding and daily use for 2 years. I highly recommend it. I purchased this suit when I needed a one suit fits all needs solution, I would do it again starting over if I could only buy one. I used it commute over my street clothes. I used it in the canyons and I laughed at the strange looks I'd get going to dinner in it from non-riders. Vented for summer use. Warm enough to ride at high speeds in the low 40 deg. F. range. Have used it in the rain and would recommend it strongly still.

Don't worry about looking like a dork, you can still move out riding in this suit others on here that ride with me will vouch. See attached pic. It's only downside is it isn't leather, and it most likely will not pass for trackday use.

honestly the best suit for street riding, thats why all the mgazine riders wear them

+1 on the Roadcrafter. I have the exact same color suit.

Too bad that once I got started I had to have SIDI Vortice, Arai Corsair -7 x2, Corsair V, and a Dainese Tatoo. Now my Alpinestars MX-1 Jacket, and MX-1 1P leathers just hang on the hook. Oh well now I have extras.

Good luck in your search.
