Ok man the busa in the video let off. I know they werent going 180 mph. Also if you read in the post it says the busa rider didnt have a helment on. Now with a helment on its real hard to breath at 170, so imagine without. Roll-on on a free way, vette vs a busa, excuse me for being arogant but i dont thinks so. Drag race yeah but top end hmmm

drag racing yes. What is the top speed because no skill is needed to pin the throttle and go 180+.

recently i got it on with one of the high dollar Mercedes sport cars while cruising at 90. Can't tell which one it was cause i don't look behind me at about 180. Once he jumped and I had to shift down twice it took a bit to pull him in but then it was see ya time.

brixxer,

You need to get your Lingenfelter Vette knowledge down if you are going to quote stuff like that.

First off those Vettes that were tested have totally different gearing and they don't tell you that. The Vette that went 230+ had totally different gearing when it went high 9's!

So what I am saying is if the 9 second Vette ran you on the street it would be close with a STOCK Busa! If that same Vette had the 230+ gearing he would get walked until around 170+ when he starts to real the BUSA in because of bad AERO over 160+ and the bikes horsepower/weight no longer has the advantage.

And the Video linked was someone from SH.org and he only went to about 150mph indicated and since he didn't see the car beside him, he let off. So if you want to call it a KILL, fine but not everyone is going to let off. I personally will run it to the RED LINE if I have the road and the conditions are safe.

I have to disagree. Well, I guess any idiot with a bit of luck can pin it and hit 180+. However, it takes quite a bit of skill to *competently* run 180+ on a bike. I haven't hit 180+ yet, only been in the mid 170's (indicated, so prolly more like low 160's truth be known due to speedo error) but I can tell you that while some runs were smooth no brainers that anybody with a sack full o'nuts could have done, others took quite a bit of "ridin'" just to keep the bike on the *STRAIGHT* road.

Ever been in the 180+ range and had a gust of wind take you across the lane toward the shoulder? It's surprising how much you may have to lean just to keep it from runnin' off the edge of the roadway and this is in a perfectly straight section of roadway. I went a good 1/4 mile leaned over pretty good on the 172 indicated run on the 10 the other day just to keep it from runnin' off the right side of the road. I started out hugged up to the center line on my side of the road. I prolly never came closer than a couple feet or so from the fog line but that's a close fuggin' call with the edge of the roadway at that kind of speed!

I'm not bashin' ya or anything, I just don't like the idea of any newbies seein' that comment and thinkin' it's a simple no brainer to run those kinds of speed. Based on my experience it can get hairy as Hell in a BIG fuggin' hurry at big speeds. I'm sure folks who hit those speeds on a regular basis would agree... it's not always as simple as pinnin' the throttle and not fallin' off.

what i was referring to was the comment made about the top end comment made by Him.
Drag race yeah but top end hmmm[/QUOTE]

i was just pointing out that there are cars out there that can beat a busa.. granted there are very few but they are there. some people will encounter them more so in certain parts of the country. i.e. CA, FL, NY. then others its rare to even see a porsche.
I know the gearing in a car has a lot to do with what they can do for speeds. i believe that those vettes are running lower rears but with a 6 speed tranny it compensates up on top for the lower rearend. now throw a taller rearend in it with that 6 speed.. 200 wouldnt be much trouble for them to hit. yeah i know they give the low end away then for drag racing.
And BT is right, I've been to 175 indicated and damn it gets hairy at that speed at times.

I've been 170 indicated on the busa and i didnt think it was hard to keep the bike strait. Would have went faster but the wind was getting in my jacket and i started to feel light headed (strangled). I dont think the busa is as supsectiable to wind as the 10 is cause its a little lower with a lot more as. I just looked at the times for the 427 Liggen fighers. it took this much money

TOTALS engine/transmission: $70,667 suspension: $2186 brakes: $6533 wheels/tires: $6863 body/interior: $9953

for 800hp and 800tq. The quater was only 11. something. Im still skeptical but i guess being young and dumb i dont believe shid stinks til i step in it. But ill keep my eyes out for any sick sounding/lookin vettes and let you know how it turns out

him,

Those numbers are off for the $$$$$$!

You can have a Vette in the 8's for $70k and well over 200+ MPH TOP SPEED for that kind of money and drive it daily!

Those are the numbers i got of the 2nd ranked car in the 2004 super challenge. It says the vette is all wheel drive also. It was also their best engie twin turbo intercooled 427

I've been above 170 indicated twice and above 160 indicated several times on a busa. Maybe two runs total were actually smooth and straight without any drama. The rest required some conscious ridin' just like runs on the 10 do due to wind tryin' to take the bike one direction or the other at speed. The busa is awesome but it ain't no magic bullet. It's still susceptible to wind and other influences. Competently goin' fast (above 170) still takes skill unless you want to rely on pure luck. You might get lucky on several runs but eventually luck runs out.

Ask Ninja Eater and the others that have gone really fast a lot of times and see if they don't agree. I've seen them talk about movin' across the roadway when the wind catches their busas at high speeds. I've also felt it myself several times. Not as many times as they've felt it but enough to know that there's more to competently goin' fast than just holdin' the throttle open...

well ive only been that fast once and didnt have any problems, so i cant disaggree with what you are saying but from my limited expierence i just havent had any wind issues. Now on my katana anything over 110 and i was all over the place

BT, I'm with ya on this one... I just went 183 miles per hour today. GPS recorded... so it was ACTUAL speed. The speedometer read 185mph a looong time before I actually got to 183mph Actual. it was like 160mph GPS when the Speedo was reading 185.
I'm with you about the speed though. IT IS NOT EASY to go THAT FAST. I can get the needle to read 185 relatively easy. BUT AFTER THAT, EVERY SECOND GETS EXPONENTIALLY HARDER. It get difficult to breathe, you start getting really sore, you can't see well AT ALL, and it takes every ounce of strength to stay in your lane, because if you leave your lane, you DIE. that simple. NO amount of gear will help you at 180 mph. (I dunno if you guys saw the earlier post about the guy who crashed in the Gixxer 1000 at about 170mph... he got torn to pieces). As for the helmet, when it comes to going fast, I don't do it for safetly because I know it will crack open the second I hit the ground... I do it for comfort. Any little piece of debris, or bug that hits you at 180mph will MESS YOU UP. I looked at my helmet after the 183mph run, and I thanked God that I had it on. The thing was covered in bugs.
Anyways, in my opinion it is IMPOSSIBLE to go past 160mph without a helmet... I can't see how a person would even be able to keep their eyes open... I have a hard time riding with my visor open after about 40 mph...

like i said i have only been 170 indicated so i cant really relate to fighting to stay up but when i was doing that 170 i had no problems with wind. I always get that breathing problem at bout 130 too. I think my jackets to big or neck to small, probably need to get in the weight room. But all in all i'm still stickin to my previous statement. Quater mile yes, top end , is all dependant on gearing

him,

Now I know what article you are reading. That car was on STREET tires and pump gas. With slicks, race gas, and the goodies, that is one bad Vette!
cool.gif
Just think if it had NITROUS also like the winning Viper that cheated and used race gas.

JOHN.....rip you off....HENNESEY!

Ok so how many people do u know that cruise around with racing slicks and running 100 octane
rock.gif

It is funny you say that because quite a lot really. But mainly I am speaking of DRAG RADIALS, not as sticky as slicks but much better than any normal street tire.

Many guys have run in the low 9's/high 8's with DRAG RADIALS!
