voodoo exhausts / shortie exhaust

These are Hedman Hot Tips ($23 each) mounted to a $2.50 adapter from AutoZone. Look great but were just a little too loud for the neighbors. They sound great while riding the bike. I couldnt tell any difference in horsepower from the butt dyno.

Has anyone tried cutting out the stock mid-pipe close to where the black muffler bolts on and used a larger Hedman Header, say 2.50" opening and make one long extended type pipe? I notice the sizes come in 2, 2.25 and 2.5. The stock mid-pipe looks to be about 2 3/8 thick. I just ordered the 2" x 9" and thinking what it might look like with one semi-long sort of a dragster look  May sound good with a little extra pipe to it but I think it would take the 2.50" pipe to go over the existing mid. Already order the 2 though

Those sound good, not exactly cheap either.

:rulez:: However, there's something to a Busa not having long pipes along the sides though, seems naked but looks great, just like mine :).

does anybody have the fatty pipes installed or even heard of them (The Fatty Pipes Website). supposed to be louder than yoshi but quieter than voodoo. has removeable baffles.

because i won't need one with slip ons, if i add a PC, will break even on the horsepower or come out ahead?

I have the Fatty Pipes on my bike. They are pretty loud as well, took an 8 hour ride to Vegas on my Busa and I could barely hear my iPod most of the time because of the exhaust. There is a point mid-RPM when it has a lovely tune though,, it sounds so sweet. Plus, I paid $250 for them and I am not taking them off and I love the look.

Also, I have some that I made using regular exhaust tips with Harley Baffles in them that are not too loud. If you want them, let me know!

Well, I just ordered a set of those hedman hot tips. Jegs has them marked down to $20 each now just in case anyone else wants to try this. Shipping and all it came to a total of $49.97.

I got a set of hotbodies laying around some where if your interested? i'll try to find them this weekrnd when I get in, and snap some pics of them for the classified.

omg these things sound freakin mean! They actually baffled it quite a bit more than I thought they would. Still loud as hell but smooth sounding so I can definately tolorate until I can afford a real system. Thanks for all the help streetracer. I didnt even use clamps at all...just drilled 3 holes through the tip, adapter, and header and put three screws in. Worked like a charm.

it does not really work very well if you have a pillion. Gets real hot for the pillion

nope, pinion heatis definately not a problem. wifey rode back there all day today. they dont even aim that way...they aim "out" since theres no curve in them like there in in the oem pipe. She didnt really even complain about the noise...just that she could tell it was louder but not deafening like she thought it would be. My wifes pretty much a puss too so if it meets her approval after several hours of riding...... its all good! :)

I was looking into getting a pair of VooDoos but I would like to finish it up with some aftermarket headers. Can you guys point me in the right direction? Do we have a sponsor that provides just the headers?

Thanks

Vance&Hines makes just the header, and any mufflers, aftermarket or stock will bolt up. They're stainless steel and around $400. It's for the gen2, don't know if they have the same setup for the gen1 or not.

Do you think they are worth the upgrade? It was just a thought I had but wasn't really sure how much they would cost or if it would even be worth it.

What exactly do u wanna end up with? Looks? Power? Sound? I haven't seen the V&H header in person, but I do know personally that they make good stuff, have for many years, don't think anybody will disagree with that.
The short tips are gonna be very loud, more so with the V&H header, as it has no catilytic convertor. You can buy some brands of short tips with baffles, but again, still very loud. You may like it loud, the cops tend not to, depending on where u are.
If you keep the stock header, no matter what muffler u do or don't use, a new fuel map from a power commander or the like will do u little to no good. Any gain would be too small to ever see.
If you go with a full system, a new fuel map is not Needed, but recomended, as the bike will run much better with the proper fuel tune.
As you know, there are tons of exhaust to choose from. Best thing u can do is decide how much u wanna spend, do u want a mild or loud sound, and what are u gonna use it for. Some exhaust make a few more hp than others, but only really good if your fightin for every little bit u can at the dragstrip.

I personally want it for looks/sound. The louder the better pretty much. I did the same to my firends car except we cut off the cat. converter and just welded straight pipes from headers to exhaust. If the same can be done here then I guess I could do that too. There are lots of Harleys around where I live and they are obnoxiously loud but never get pulled over for it.

From what I've seen with Harleys is the cops either like em, or are afraid of em:laugh:
If you want looks and sound, go for it. Unbolt your stock mufflers and let er rip, that's what it'll sound like. You can gut the convertor if you want, but I hear they are a pain(and I've done a few cars over the years too) as well as it would probably run worse without a new fuel tune.
The $50 mod in this thread seems to be what you want, assuming u like the sound with the mufflers off.
