So, I'm watching this video, and the narrator (Ex seal IIRC) says "This is the .308, it is the standard round for the AK47"... Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the .308 a british round? And at that, I'm pretty dag gone sure the AK47 is a 7.62x39 round, seeing as my brother has one, and I've shot NUMEROUS 7.62 through it...

.308 and the 7.62mm are basically the same rounds. You can interchange the .308 for a 7.62 rounds as long as the load specs are the same (casing, powder etc). Basically the round is the same, but the casing and load is different. You can not use a out of the box .308 round in something that takes 7.62 either NATO 51mm or the other 39mm round. Externally the NATO (7.62x51) looks damn near identical to a .308, but there is a difference of .003" in length. So, basically the guy the video is right and wrong if that makes any sense.

Never mind... I'm dumb with that reply I had... I reitterated everything you said in different words... Yep... I gotcha now though.

As stated the .308 and the 7.62x51 are almost twins(shoots the same bullets). The AK47 shoots the 7.62x39(shorter case). Being an EX SEAL he should know that the 7.62x39 is not known as .308, it is called the 7.62x39. The 7.62x39 shoots a .310-.312 bullet.

LOL...never a shortage of SEALS that want to get on TV.

Pretty Sure more than a few of them were never actually SEALs though... Im pretty sure that there are more folks walking around pretending to be UDT SEALs then there are active Duty SEALs.

Folks have a need to feel tough, feel important I suppose it's natural.

True....that need probably comes along with the need to wear turtle-necks...

Let me stop...the guy is probably a great guy who just misspoke a little about the weapon.

That'll leave a mark.

government footage of long range sniper kills. Listen for reaction at the end.</p>

By the way, the "Sniper footage" video is NOT a human kill. It's a video of some vermin. The guy that owns the rights to that (not the governments video according to this guy) said he's a varmint hunter and it was a rock chuck or something like that.

It's possible he didn't have a true 7.62mm round available but the .308 was available. So in an effort to keep people from saying "Hey he held up a .308 but called it a 7.62" he just called it what it was.

Just a thought

But why not just say what gun shoots the .308 then? Like an M1 Garand? That was kinda my quirk I have with it.

Imagine what that rifle would do with a TRE

No, the AK does not shoot a ".308 Winchester"

Ben you should stop watching violent vids with Metallica playing in the background...

Yeah, I could see your point.

Perhaps, the AK is more well known to those outside the "gun club"? But those people would probably also know it take the 7.62 vs the .308 round - and not know how similar the rounds are. I'm stumped.

He goofed.
