Washing Tips

After riding through a cloud of bugs last night, my baby needs her first bath. Anything on the bike that shouldn't get wet?

Spray it down, get suds all over it. It'll be okay. Post pics after you get it all shiney!

That's right. You rode it in the rain after all, didn't you?

When I break out the Bike Brite and hose, I soak everything, gauges included. In 15 bikes, I've never once had a problem. I don't mean to suggest you direct a high pressure stream directly at electrical components, I'm just saying a little water won't hurt your motorcycle.

FWIW

WARNING: the user manual tells you not to direct any high pressure hosing to the radiator fins or the ignition lock. I use a light spray for those areas.

A few other tips: between washings & waxings I use Meguiar's Quick Detailer on the nose, windshield and front fender if there's not a lot of dust or dirt involved. If you spray it and let it sit for a few seconds it will remove bug innards plus leave a waxy protective shine. Beats bug and tar remover. I also use Armorall on the mirror extenders and mirror backs. Armorall removes bug guts on these components as well.

Well, I did a half-a$$ed cleaning job. Just got the bugs off the front. Soap and water. Will do a better job and post pics after the weekend.

Riding this bike is so much fun, who has time to clean it?

Honda Spray Polish, No water required.
YUP!!!!! Honda Pro-Shine/Polish...

Been over a year and a half since Lilah has been touched by anything other than A Micro-Fibre Cloth (3-M) and Honda Pro Shine...

I get nothing but Compliments on how shiney she looks... I hear all about it...

And one more good shot... Just remember to use plenty of clean dry Micro-Fiber cloths... IMNSHO, you cannot go wrong.

Quick pre ride prep with a California Car Duster... Gets all the dust off without scratching...

After ya wash the bike take either an air hose or a couple of cans of duster and blow off all the gauges an electrical connectors and give yourself an extra piece of mind about getting stuff dry

Thanks man,

It may not be "Zaino" Shiney...  But it takes me about 30 minutes to completely get her ready to go out.

The California Car duster is really the key I think.  It will remove all the abrasive sand and road grit, then I can hit it with the microfiber cloths and Honda proshine...

GJoker has recently come over to the Darkside as well... He discovered the Pro-Shine and is pretty happy with the results...

I FOUND OUT AFTER WASHING IT ALL DOWN THE PAIN IS TO DRYING OFF THE AREAS THAT CANT BE REACHED,SO BY USING YOUR LAWN BLOWER AFTER WARDS WORKS GREAT AND LEAVES NO SPOTS ON THE BIKE AT ALL ,THEN SPRAY ON SOME QUICK DETAILER AND YOUR DONE.:;):

I've been using the leaf blower trick for years and finally someone came out with the Bike Blower. A mini leaf blower to dry your bike. No water spots and no water running down from places after you are all done...

But for me.........ZAINO !!!!!!!

For those of you that use water to wash your bikes, get one of those Mr Clean AutoDry Carwash thingies. It has a filter in it that removes the crap from tap water that causes water spots. Even if you dry your ride right after washing, if your water is bad enough you can end up with light water spots in the short time the water sits on your ride between washing the rest of the bike and drying. The AutoDry thing works.

There are other filtration options but this one is readily available (Home Depot, WalMart, most any auto parts house I think) and not priced too bad for what it is. You can throw away the Mr Clean soap that comes with the unit and use your liquid carwash of choice. Works great! Suds the bike up really well before you even touch it with a cloth or mitt.
