WEIRD Engine Noise

I would imagine your ok if it doesn't sound horrible and goes away after warming. Mine does the same, what bothers me is my slight exhaust leak that does NOT go away with warm up... too busy riding to fix it :beerchug:

hy

im kinda worried ...my busa 2005 has 10.000 miles on ...on the last 100 mile
the engine makes a weird noise....when its in gear and rolling...if i pull the clutch stops...if im in neutral no noise ...soon as im in speed...starts....i know ill been reading this forums...i just got on this 1...i have no idea what to do....pls help out a noobie :) thx

I have the same noise upon startup on my 07 , then goes away a little after its warmed up. I have 5,800 and decided to switch to a fully synthetic oil and the noise became louder just then. Im wondering if that has anything to do with it or is it just something that is normal for Busas when they get to a certain milage or what??? Frusterating.

im with you guys, my 2011 has the same tick on warmup, but mine is on the left side (from a seated position), it is definitely an upper head/valve spring/cam tick. it does go away after warmup. it's bee there since mile one and now at 3500 miles is just like it was from day one. The one thing I can say is that with the original oil in it the tick was much more noticable. When I went to mobile one synthetic, it just about vanished and can only be noticed for the first few seconds. Also, i noticed that when i rev it slightly during warmup that seems to help it get over the tick rather quickly. My not so expert opinion is that there is a lack of oil being applied to that secion of cam/spring/valve and it takes time for the oil to reach that spot. it is obviously not good as non-lubricated parts will wear out faster, so if suzuki is reading this, we are on to you and please fess up!

My 08 has done this since I got it. I also here a tinging or screeching noise every now and then. I would love to know what that is comeing from. I had it checked and of course nothing. I have 16K on mine and so far no issues with it. The noise comes and goes so until something breaks I will just ride and enjoy I guess.

Mine also does the same.. I get the infamous "cold start tick".. but after she warms up it goes away.. thought I had an exhaust leak for a while... Glad that wasn't the case.

I have heard that it takes a minute to get oil to the top of the engine from a cold start. Colder air temps would make for thicker oil. My 09 has always had a tick and chatter on cold start up. Goes away within a minute.

Could the tick be coming from the pair valve ports. I think there are reed type valves in each that may be making the sound.

So I have beed having this weird engine noise lately. It is the worst while the bike has just been started and is warming up. It is a pretty consistent, but rather loud and worrying tick. Then after the bike gets warm, it quiets down to a pretty normal sounding gixxer. I thought it was possibly a valve in desperate need of adjustment. So I took it down to the mechanic (a 2 hour drive away) and left it with him over night to do a diagnostic.

He calls me up the next day and says he started it up, listened to it, even rode it a bit to heat cycle it and listened again, and said there is absolutely nothing wrong with the engine. He said his gixxer makes twice the noise.

So I was confused, went out and started it and we both listened to it. The tick was gone! We could hear a little tiny bit of chattering from the cam chain but he said that its no problem and we wouldnt ever get rid of that...

So heres the thing. The mechanic I went to is a lower elevation and higher temps. I live in a small mountain town, and he is in a big town in a kind of low valley. There is a big temp difference. It is still 50 degrees in the morning when I start 'er up, but down at the mechanics, it was 97 degrees. So this has me thinking maybe it only has to do with temperature? He also mentioned it could be gas, since some gas stations might still be selling off their winter blends. So Im gonna be going to a diff gas station to see if it changes.

But do you guys have any ideas as to what it could be? I swore it sounded like a valve issue, but the sound was gone when it was down there in the 97 degree heat...
Mine does it too, 2013 model. Tappety noise goes away as soon as it warms up. Got told all busas do it when cold!
