Well Gen 3 riders???

If your in neutral. Why would you want it to hold? Be weird if it did. Also, I like the bootlegs mirrors. GREATLY! Had an 08 and always thought they looked terrible.
main question: No reverse pattern shifting?? Darn it. Or has someone did it. Do tell…
Re: why would you want hill hold in neutral..
Weird?
Weird is that you wouldn't want the option to do that..
Eg Near me there's a traffic light junction on a steep incline. Why would you sit there for minutes at a time, squeezing a clutch lever whilst supporting the combined weight of bike, rider plus pillion when you don't have to?
Had a k1600 with hill hold in neutral. Very useful. Could just sit there scratching ones ball bag without holding onto the 'bars or using either rear or front brake.
Also, the mirrors are Not great from a viewing what's behind perspective, due to their size.

I haven't had much time to ride since I've been on 6-day work weeks and when I'm off it's been crap weather. However, I was able to get out tonight and go to a local bike night.

Biggest difference coming from a Gen-2:

Handles much better and more flickable feeling. It may not be any different but feels much improved and lower weight/center of gravity. I can't wait to remove the factory exhaust.

Transmission is 1,000% improved. Honestly, hard to get use to the up/down quickshifter when you haven't had it before. I still catch myself using the clutch but the thing shifts butter smooth. My previous Gen's feel like a clunky dump truck compared to this. Quickshifter works great and makes the bike even more fun when hooning..lol.

Comfort: handlebar and seat position has always been comfy for my size at 6'2". I may add a cut seat for racing but cruising around town I don't have any problems with the factory setup. If I were doing some hyper miles or cross country treks I'd probably recommend a heated or gel seat.

Mirrors are great, much improved and actually usable unlike in the past. I don't have any issues.

Instrument cluster and TFT is amazing and easy to see day and night. Not to mention you can view voltage, mpg, trips and many other options. LED headlights are wonderful and a big improvement also.

Brakes are much improved but honestly I never had any complaints with my Gen-2 stopping from 230mph+ with a line and pad upgrade.

The biggest change besides the quickshifter for me are the controls. The cruise button I feel is a reach, almost like the button is backwards the way it's designed. It'll take me some time getting use to the mode switch because I keep fumbling for the highbeam in that area. I do like the one touch auto start.

My only real complaint is they completely failed on the tail section storage and tool kit. Gen-1/2 had a huge area to put stuff and a basic kit. I don't like how they shrunk it and skimped on the tools.

Things I wish it had are a smart key or keyfob instead of the old school setup, tire pressure monitor system, and heated grips/seat as standard equipment. It could use more power but I'm use to a bike that makes almost 3x the power so everything feels slow.

I had the same experience with the cruise control button. I was thinking of rotating the whole throttle assembly (if possible) so that the button was lower down and closer to my thumb.

Agree on the tail section! I had to a t-shirt and some oranges into the hole in the underside of the cowl on my last trip because there was literally no space for them.

Rear FORWARD handle Pit Bull works fine. Learned that on my 2008 when I almost dropped it. I was used to just hip checking it as I walked around to the rear to set the stand. Heavier bike does not let that happen too easily. Forward stand works great. You always have a hand on the left handlebar. MUCH SAFER. I also have a front stand and found out that you DO have to remove the front fender if you want to lift it up RACE Bike style with a Pit Bull front lift stand.. Not a big deal if you want to really lift it off the ground for some type of work.

I wonder since we have Hill Hold if it’s adjustable in the ecu? Whatever is responsible for the angle measurement from side to side is probably what controls HH and could, or should be adjustable.

What I found kind of interesting is the banter in the early gen 2 thread where everyone is feeling out the then new gen 2...pretty much the mirror of the gen 3 thread.

If anyone has the interest, it's worth going back into the early parts of that thread and read some posts...there are a few people still posting...

What's kind of ironic is the similarity in changes between the generations...the Hayabusa hasn't really changed that much from it's inception.....that goes to show you how good the platform really is.

Gen 3 hasn't changed much from the 2 besides a face lift and the price tag lol.

Kind of like the gen 1 to gen 2...engine and body work changes and then the addition of the electronic suite..

I think it was smart of Suzuki to do this knowing full well much of the aftermarket will still work...why reinvent the wheel....

More power would have been the icing on the cake though...it seems to be the first thing on most people's minds...

Initial impressions from my ride home from the dealer yesterday. 30 miles.

1. Never had a bike with a quick-shifter. Shifts, especially downshifts take more effort than I'm used to. Seems most useful on the upshifts. It will certainly take some getting used to especially on the downshift. Can do it much smoother with the clutch.

2. Brakes are awesome compared to my Gen 2. Will need some road time to get used to the coupled system and just using the front lever. I like that I can still drag the rear brake a bit going into corners.

3. Throttle felt like it had a lot of play in it. Will do the adjustment and fix that.

4. Handles lighter than my gen 2 even with the stock exhaust.

5. Will have to take it slow and get used to the bike. Since a couple of key systems are so different, I can't just go balls to the wall without some real seat time.

6. Instrument panel is amazing but its a bit too blingy for me. I miss the red/orange lighting because I feel I can see it better. Active display is kind of a waste while riding since you are looking at the road. The lean angle info is the most interesting part. I suspect the bike will spend most of its time in A mode or a User mode close to it. I plan on setting one user mode with everything off except for TC-1.

7. Smooth, smooth, smooth. The stock exhaust sounds great and for now until I see some full carbon R77 slip-ons it will stay.

8 Tried the cruise control briefly and it works well

9. Foot-pegs seem higher than the Gen 2. Although the bars are higher, seemed like I had a lot of pressure on the wrists. Probably because I haven't ridden for a while.

10. Tie down options on the bike are limited. Once you pay extra for the Frankenstein bolts and install them, they are pretty much in line with the hooks on the passenger peg hooks. It was easy to tie stuff down with them on the grab bar like the gen 2. Will have to get creative or go with a ventura rack for cargo.

Lastly, it seems like Suzuki kind of cheaped out on some things. The tail-cone seems a bit flimsily constructed, the tool kit is a joke and little things like the plastic heel-guards look crappy next to the gen 2's metal ones. I see a carbon fiber upgrade in the future. The plastic helmet hooks are pretty lame and will surely break over time.

Looking forward to getting to know this new beast.

Definetly more flickable.
Mirrors are not great.
Hill hold needs to cut in on less of an incline than it does. And stay on in neutral, which it doesn't.
2nd to 3rd still clunks if clutch used.
Pillion seat big improvement due to lip stopping swmbo from sliding forward.
Brakes much better.
Much nicer riding position.
Less buffeting possibly as wider. Or so it appears and feels.
I also dont like the mirrors

Haven't seen much written about the linked braking setup. Seems to be mostly transparent to most. Wonder how long before people start trying to neuter it...
2018 gsxr1000R I ride has those.
All I can say is it's weird.
I guess I'm getting more used to it.
Unless TC is off, there is zero feedback, and I can't do it.
With TC off, still weird, as trail braking into corners isn't the same.
Not alot of dive in front when hard on the front brakes.
No stoppies possible(booooo).
He considered scrapping the ABS all together, but I told him to leave it, as he is not a knee dragger, but otherwise a good and experienced rider.
I couldn't have him crash and have it on my concious(not that he ever has)...then I go and F it up hitting a deer, lol.
I think I'll kill the ABS when I get a gen3.
My braking ability is good enough for me.
I don't think ABS can stop me any sooner on a dry road than I can without it, now the rear wheel may be in the air...but I'm ok with that, lol, and I slow down in the rain, the cold, and the dark anyway.

Lots of difference, I’m still finding things after nearly 12K miles. Wheelie control, stoppie control, braking control at angles, cruise control, hill assist, 2 step, body work, small panel for access to oil filter, turn in much improved, speed shifter is awesome, I haven’t used the clutch since ‘07. Trunks smaller again, engine braking settings. I like the mirrors, that’s mainly appearance, the braking is improved, there’s more torque on the interstate. Don’t know about topping it out ‍♂️ Lighting seems to be better, front turn signals can be seen on the road at night. I’ve owned a Gen 1, 2 Gen 2’s, and a Gen 3. They’re not the same bikes. So many things, outside temp indicated, when it drops to 34F you get a snow flake under the gear indicator.

Kind of the same haha.

I'm getting 46mpg hand calculated at the pump. That's 3mpg more than my gen2. That was 80mph most of the time, getting on it 4-5 times up to 140mph almost redlining. My bike is a Cali bike and broke in Motoman's way! That way of breakin is a win-win situation. More HP, tighter clearances in cylinders, will last longer and is faster in the quarter than a gentle broke-in bike. I've seen this in person with my gen1 back in 2003. Love the quick shifter even though it's a little clunky. Flickable about like my 2017 BMW 1000rr. Put carbon wheels on this thing and it will be more flickable than the BMW! I don't what they did, but it's agile. It feels like it pulls harder than my gen2 with 4in1 exhaust, pc5, and aux, fueling module. I love this thing. If I ever get rid of my gen3, it will be because I'm stopping riding bikes altogether. Love the sparkles, yes sparkles everywhere even on the side covers and mirror frames! I love the gap between the windshield and the dash as it fits my Valentine 1 radar detector perfectly. I still put a little foam on both sides for vibration purposes and it's sitting there and doesn't move. Before, I had to get a mount and position it ok but always hid one of my gauges, but like this nice and snug and is hard to see so it won't be as easily stolen. The other mount stuck out like a sore thumb and anybody could have run up and snatched it as it was magnetically mounted. Love the LED running lights. I haven't ridden it at night, but the headlights seem brighter.

After breaking in the engine. Installed pretty much anything that's available, anywhere from air filter to exhaust, cush drive, ceramic bearings & aluminum rear sprocket. The only Annoying thing I have is the clutch assembly giving a little bit of clunk. I have to wait for a solid clutch hub and the factory ecu unlocked and/or ecu swap kit.
