What do you think about this deal?

Anyone with an idea on why there is a slight knock? Also, what is the problem w/ second gear i keep reading about?

Thanks.

Pull in the clutch, does the knock go away

?.......mine does the same thing...

Don't shift without clutching, and you'll never find out about the second gear "dog" problem.....if you learn to blip the throttle on downshifts, that helps too !!!!

That slight "knock" tells you you need to synch your throttle bodies. It'll go away once you've taken care of that minor little chore.

LOL. I figured I would go with EK. I saw a kit that includes Vortex fr/rr sprockets and an EK chain. Are Vortex sprockets ok? He actually told me that second gear is a little jacked. Said it's ok if you shift @ 3k or below. How hard is it to replace the shift fork?

Where can I get info on how to do this?

Thanks guys!

Here are some daytime photos. Of course with the Crappy 8525 so they're not the best.

Congrats.
Awesome deal. Take it easy at first. Just like a used car with miles. Take it easy and make sure you learn all of its little idiosycrocies. You got a great buy. It also helps knowing the owner. Any questions you can always ask him.

Wow, what a deal! I thought I got a deal on my 2000 but this sounds really good. Mine makes a slight rattle or grumble with the clutch out but stops when pulled in, probably just clutch plates rattling. Welcome

Nice bike and good deal also,What dacals are those? I've been looking at the e-bay ones for 40$ and did not know if there any good. If you how to use tools and get a manual you can fix the tranny yourself.I fixed mind for about 600$. You need spanner sockets to take the motor out of the frame but everything else is straight forward.Tons if info on here about that.Good luck with the new scoot.

Thanks guys!

Hey Mike,

I got them off ebay. Really good decals and easy to apply. I had to improvise and cut the kanji to wrap around the text because you couldnt see the black on black lettering. I would recommend the guy I got them from. The picture on ebay is usually some blonde in a black bikini on a busa. I'll post more pics after I replace chain and sprockets and clean it up.

well finally got my sprockets installed and replaced my chain. Took it out for the first ride and all I can say is WOW!! This baby has got power. Kept it really low (sub 6k) and you can still feel the power. I love it. I'll post up pics pretty soon.

It is likely going to need some stuff soon.. fuel pump, IS the trans good?? 30 k is a little bit of mileage...Does it use oil? Are u willing to spend some $$$ on it ??
30k is not alot of miles. I put 52,000 on my 02 and have over 24,000 on my 06le. I sold my 02 with 52,000 miles on it 2 years ago for $5,000.
It is a lot of miles. Its not necessarily enough miles to make the engine stop running. The engines are supposed to me overhauled before 30k miles.

it runs really good. I'm going to overhaul it thought and do all the maintenance as if it never had any. I might pick up a '07 engine with less than 500miles for 1500 here locally. We'll see.

Been away for a while and just picked up on your thread. Great deal... Sounds like you're on the right track by replacing the sprockets and the chain. I would use a good synthetic oil. Personally, I use Royad Purple. Good luck, have fun and congrats.

There is no need to overhaul these engines at 30,000 miles unless there is a problem. They will run alot longer then that.
