what is best gearing for busa vs. stock liter bike

(HeloMech74 @ Aug. 18 2007,23:52) Yeah, I have been wondering about gearing too.  I am about to do a chain and sprocket change anyway and figured it would be a good time to try new gearing.  I hit the highways a lot, so I don't want the bike to feel like it's being wound up more then it already is in 6th gear just cruising along.  I do want a little more punch down low though.  I really don't want to mess with the front sprocket at all.  How would a 17/42 combo work out?  Anyone else running this?
works great.better down low.pulls off corners better and still good for fuel milage.

I went up 2 on the rear (17/42) and it made a big difference. the bike is still managable, and it's quicker. best mod for the price out there IMHO. might try a 16 on the front for the hell of it, but that's like going up 5 in the back. might be a little to agressive for me.

I've tried several combinations. I rode 16/42 several months this year. You better hang on when you hit it. It's also about perfect for roads like the Dragon as you can zip through there and hardly ever have to touch the brake. (Although now you can't zip through there with all the LEO's lol) However, I do a bunch of interstate riding and 16/42 is just a bit too much for me. I went with a 17/42 and for me, it's the perfect all round street compromise. Try it, you'll like it.

(busabutter @ Aug. 09 2007,22:31) The stock gearing is just fine against liter bikes.  It's not like the Busa needs this and that to keep up with a liter bike.  It's just as fast if not faster, definitely smoother and more comfy.  Everytime I flick my wrist I'm doin a 100mph in what feels like 2 seconds.  Really it does.  I flick my wrist look at my tack and then look up and notice the speedo and 98mph really fast in a blink of an eye.

I can't wait to race a Hayabusa and the new K7 1000.  Dealer guy told me the 1000 is faster.  I don't think so, it probably is if you can keep the nose down.  The GSXR 1000 wants to fly.
sorry son, your 2 second busa will get eaten alive by liter bikes dating as far back as '01....you are definitely a magazine/bench racer...can't you see that liter bikes trap higher than busas in the 1/4? do you know what that translates to on the streets?

*hint: don't bet money...*

busas are easier to launch than liter bikes, but once the party is rolling, different story....and if both bikes have equal riders, ie.: the 1k rider has mastered launching a 1k, and likewise for the busa rider....I would give that race to the liter bike about 2 out of 3 runs.

Now... a roll-on from say 60mph....busa will get walked everytime all the way up to 150mph...

and I;m speaking from experience, because I own both, and race all the time.

*sad fact* with a 1k and busa equipped with all the bolt-on mods (Including stage I drop in cams), the busa gets owned every step of the way...always.

As for gearing, I haven't played with the gearing on the busa yet, but from experimenting with my 1k, I would reccomend either -1 up front, or +2 in the rear, but not both at the same time.....I personally prefer +2 on my 1k....-1 felt a little too low of a gearing for my tastes, and -1,+2 is strictly for 1/4 mile drags (but still very streetable), you just lose alot of top-end.

(BusaCruise @ Aug. 17 2007,18:59) might make for a few more MPG.....too.
The sweet spot on my Busa is around 3800 RPMs. That's were I make 50 MPG anywhere else is less.

I haven't had any problems with liter bikes, but at the same time I have come up against an '07 model.

This is a terrible comparision, but it did make me switch gearing on my ride to a 16 front pully.

Roll on from 50 mph.  (drawback #2 for busa) beep beep beep .. hit it.
Equal for a second.. I shift out of 1st into 2nd.. immediately he's 2 bikes in front and gaining, nothing I can do.

Reached 130 and slow down.

Low point of the story, he was in 3rd gear when we started and shifted to 4th at 8k on the tach....  sigh... weight is a killer when playing games.

K bikes rule hands down.
