I vote SV650. Good comfortable bike for riding every day. Good mpg and easy to work on. The only experience I have with a Triumph is a friend had a Triumph rocket and it was in the shop a lot. Suzuki would be a better choice I think.

Bandit all the way if you ever ride two if not gsx650f

The FZR has never been on my list. Long or short. For me there is just something about Yam's that I'm not too keen on dunno why.

I thought about the Z1000, but it has a lot of mixed reviews, so I never really considered it.
I'm sure you have your reasons, but other than the Busa, the FZ1 was my all time favorite bike. I really wish I had kept it and traded the FJR for the Busa instead.

how many miles a week are you talking about?
Like 375 miles a week. Mostly straight stuff. There aren't a lot of opportunities for twisty goodness on the way to work where I live.

And here is the thing. When I buy a bike I keep it for a long time. I don't like trading out every two years. So thinking along those lines perhaps the bigger displacement motor wold be a better choice.

How far is the commute? If it is close you may want to go to a scooter that gets 110mph. Big difference I go from the Green Drago Busa Turbo to the Honda VTX cruiser to a Honda Rutkus motor scooter to the Schwinn electric scooter.

. Motor Scooter does not even have to be registered and great for the city

Yeah I thought about that. But 70 miles round trip with a lot of Interstate doesn't seem to make sense for a scooter.

Out of your list it was a tough choice between the SV and the Bandit, but I would choose the Bandit for it's displacement, ergos and proven reliability. Best real-world bang for the buck.

I don't know what issue you have with Yamahas, but if you had the FZ1 in the list I would take it over any of the above bikes in an instant if price was not an issue. It is a great machine and technically superior compared to the listed choices, with the possible exception of the B-King.

Besides blowing the bars off a Bandit, the ZRX12 has a huge compartment under the seat in the space taken up by the shock on the Bandit.

The ZRX is: faster
better looking (IMO)
better chassis/suspension
more storage (essential on a commuter)

SV650... Inexpensive, reliable, lightweight and simple... Perfect. HUGE aftermarket=Fun...

Or do what I did, find something different.

Simple, different, and fun as hell to ride.

Not haven ridden any except the SV650 which is a very good and capable bike. I would still be looking at the B king just cause I love that bike. But if all your doing is back and forth to work than you can not go wrong with the SV650.

I've ridden a 1996 Bandit 1200S for 3 years before getting my Busa. Great commuter bike and not bad for weekend fun. I still have it in the garage and it's for sale. Surprised it hasn't sold yet considering I'm asking about $2k. If it weren't for the obscene prices for the licence plates here in Quebec,$416 for the Bandit and !!!! $678 for my Busa I would put the plates back on my Bandit and ride it to work and play with my Busa.

Personally, I commute everyday on my GSXR 750. It never misses a beat, and I'm riding in 112+ temps....

I have a 2004 SV 650 Standard and it is just a super little bike. For short rides or around the city I prefer it to my ZX-14.

The SV sips gas.............never really thought about gas mileage until lately!

For playing on tight twisty back roads it is a hoot! It is a inherently very good handling bike when you put decent tires on it.
Most SS 600's can not get away from me unless the straights are long where they can use their superior top end power. It has good engine braking and decent power as low as 5000 rpm.

I'll never get rid of this bike, it is a keeper.

I'm right there with you about the heat. I ride my 'Busa everyday from Queen Creek to Chandler. And I'm lucky enough to roll home at the hottest part of the day.

I did decide which bike I will get though. I'm gonna get that Triumph street triple. Sat on one at that place across from Ride-Now. Sweet little bike.

i owned a bandit 1200 a few years back. you cant beat them for the money. the reliability of the motor speaks for itself

Here's my commuter. I actually have an 1100 the above is a 12. Its so much better than the busa for commuting duties. The sit up and beg riding position makes lane splitting much easier than any sport oriented forward leaning supersport.

The under seat trunk is huge. Its probably the largest space, not on a touring bike. Im a member of ZRXOA.com. Its a great site. The peeps there are very nice and supportive. Its probably the best community of all the boards I visit. The engine is bullet proof. I have +20K miles on the rex and have not had any mechancal problems. Oil and gas. Thats it! The SV has a lower operating cost (tire size and near 50mpg)and can do commuting duties just as well. I chose the Rex because of the community support and the fact that Im a big Kawi fan.

THe busa is my touring bike. If I could only have one bike... the greenie stays. If the Rex had a fairing for the long touring days, I wouldnt have a busa at all.

Regardless, all of the standards that you have listed will do well on the commute, especially if your going to hit highway speeds. If your commute is high way free, a 400 dualsport/motard would do great as well.
