Finally got around to doing a little more around the house and wanted to post up a few before and after pics. Everyone around here wanted $2500 to do it; did it myself and have about $300 in it and a couple new tools.
Not too bad for a week's downtime.
Not perfect, but looks a lot better IMO.

Don't know the condition of the hard wood under the carpet in the Bed rooms, but I'm sure I could do it. Every little bit helps.

I sure can't! My knees are to old for that kind of work.

When I was out of High School I worked as a Carpenter Apprentice. One of the first jobs I had was installing a Gym Floor in a High School.

My wife and I are about to rip up all this carpet in our bedrooms and living rooms and put hardwood down (or pretend hardwood anyway)... I'm not looking forward to it cause my son and I are going to do it and I know it is gonna be a pain, but I know we'll love it when it's done too!!! Looks good bro

Thanks all.
Guess that's the great thing about older houses.
Most of them already had hardwood floors installed; but most owners covered them up with carpet.

It used to be that carpet was a luxury item and new houses were built with cheap, easily available hardwood. A family who could buy carpet and put it over their hardwood floors was living in the lap of luxury!!!

Now, fast forward 50 to 60 years and the reverse is true. The nice thing, though, is if you own one of those older houses, you may be able to find the wood underneath is still perfectly serviceable. That way, you get to have hardwood floors for about $1,000 worth of contractor work vs. $10,000 of wood, time, etc.

Stories abound.

Beautiful work, man!
