What the hell?

I owned a 97 Katana 600. Great bike. Didn't care for the fairing change on the new models, made the bike look soft IMHO.

Maybe its being discontinued because it cant pass smog regs having carbs. ?? I dunno.
Makes sense to me. I hear the new European emissions rules are pretty tough.

Was, when I was in highschool, along with Honda Hurricane.
Same here. The Katana was the shiznit. How times have changed.

The early Katana was a great bike. Bulletproof & reliable. I had a '90 750, full yosh system, stage 3 jet kit & gearing change. It would definately run. If you never owned one, you really just don't know how good it was/is. My $.02.

Was the Katana ever a legend?

I think its still a good bike for someone who loves to ride and cant afford a GSXR.

The thing about your comment that gets me is that the Katana is only a $1K cheaper usually than the GSXR's and you end up paying premium insurance because it's considered a regular sportbike. Where's the savings?
I've always thought the Katana was there for the people scared of the GSXR performance, but wanted the look of it.

You have a good point.

Premium insurance for a Katana

Your kidding i hope, i had a katana before the busa. Coverage was dirt cheap.

I think the katana is a great bike, especially for a beginner. For sure a step to take on the way to the gsxr, and can be readily found much cheaper.

Here is some interesting reading. This is waaayy before the GSXR's. I like the parts where they say people were kinda freaked out about the design & styling. Sound familiar?

Katana timeline stuff

I haven't heard anything about the Kat being discontinued. I had a 750 for my first bike before stepping up to da BUSA.

It is still a great bike for those who can't afford a Gixxer at first or just beginning to ride. You will not get tired of it too quick but just like I said. A good beginner bike.

Too bad so sad. On a side note I think it may have something to do with Kawasaki discontinuing the ZZR1200 and introduce the ZX14. That bike is a mix of the two (look at the tail of the 14) it has a bananna seat.

Suzuki may be coming up with an answer to the 14. We'll see.
