mine was a 1984 Honda VT500FT "Ascot" quickly followed by a 1982 Kawasaki KZ 550. Both were great beginners bikes. The Honda was great! Jumped up on the back tire at every light...
Here are some pix of the VT500 (not of mine, though)
Here is a pic of a Kawa like my old one... which is currently rusting into the ground at my Mom's house in Tucson...
Mine was a Honda Dream 160, probably around a 1968 model year. I got it around 1970 and rode it until 1972. It was totally reliable and I even took it on some short trips.
Next was a Honda CB750K, 1978 which I bought that year with 1300 miles on the clock. Another great bike that was easy to maintain and never let me down. Many trips to the mountains here in NC.
My first new bike was a Suzuki GS1000G, 1980, the shaft drive version. Great bike, but a little tall. Drove it to Nova Scotia (from NC), down to Florida, and many trips to the mountains and beach.
And now I'm on the big guy. 750 miles on the clock and I'm just starting to learn! The other day this cretin in an SUV pulled out in front of me. So after the obligatory internatinal sign language, I downshifted to get the revs up to 4000 and wacked open the throttle to pass. Holy S%#@*&t! ! ! ! ! My head snapped back and the front wheel slowly came off the ground as I went by him. Must be what it feels like to be in an F-16 when the afterburners kick in.
Got my first street legal bike (it had a tag) for graduation from grammer school in 56. It would do 42 mph with me laying on the tank. The good ol days on a one lung WhiZZer.
1999 F4, put a whopping 2K miles on in 2 years. Then traded for the Busa. And put almost 6K in 2 years. Whoo hoo! I do wish i still had the F4 ( as a second bike that is )
