What would you do in this situation?

One letter from your lawyer might straighten them up... not that I like paying lawyers. :banghead:

Most extended warranties are a rip off. They do not cover anything. I had to pay $4,000 in engine repairs even though I had a full coverage extended warranty by one of these rip off operations. I talked to everyone there was at the place to no avail. They put enough loopholes in the fine print to get out of any claims. There is one of these companies that works ot of the next town over, I know 2 people that worked there. Neither of them lasted more than a month or two becasue of the shady practices they were being made to do.

Draw a line in the sand.

Burn down the warranty company

Then burn down the dealership for good measure.

Dude you better be careful with those kind of statements. You're going to end up on the "no fly" list or "domestic terrorist" list.

I'm done with extended warranties of any kind. I bought a 72 inch tv and I got an extended warrenty with it. Well! my Tv stop working not even a year after I bought it. So I called the company that I got the warranty through and the phone just rung so I went to their website. Gone! No website now. Come to find out that they screw so many people over that they went out of business.

Thanks everyone. I've gotten a quote from the Nissan Dealership, and while I like the service they provide the quote was extremely high. Had it towed to a place in town I trust. Filed a complaint with the BBB and will do the same tomorrow with the Dept. of Agriculture.

If anyone cares, don't do business with United States Warranty Corp. If you have a current contract with Capitol Warranty Corp. this is the same company. Both are ruled by evil sith lords.

Pardini - the fluid was gone, not due to negligence on my part but due to the failure causing it to run dry.

So, it leaked out all at once due to a hole in the cooler or a broken fitting/line? Not a drip over a longer period of time?

Generally not maintaining fluids is going to be considered neglect unless you were driving and it instantly emptied itself. In which case the trans may not have been damaged. Since the cooler is specifically exempted from coverage then your on your own.

Squeeky wheel's get the grease, if you make enough noise in the right places something may get taken of.

So has anyone tried refilling it to see what happens? For the cost of a few quarts it's worth a try even if you only get as far as the next dealer to trade it in. Go late before closing when the service dept is closed. Off'd the wifes POS 88 T Bird that way. It sat on the back lot for many months before disapearing.

I am no help I would probably torch the truck after getting it back:whistle:
HAHA funny that's what my wife said to do!

Pardini - They are saying, and I'll know today after the certified transmission tech looks at it, that a line burst. Since the coolant is also the lubricator they are saying there is friction damage to one of the cylinoids. Now I don't know a lot about transmission and how it's put together but don't you have to tear down the tranny to determine a cylinoid is frozen? They say they never cracked open the tranny.

I really don't know, I'll have a better idea after the tech looks at it.

Check the fine print on your copy of the extended warranty. They may have your "John H." saying you agree to those expestions (The "non covered" part turing your truck in to a boat anchor).

Good luck

Well I thought I'd give everyone an update on what's going on with this issue. Forgive the length of the post I'm about to update you on almost two days of occurrences with this issue. I'm too tired to spell check it so just wade through it if you can :)

After the inspector left I asked Kraft Nissan in Tallahassee to confirm their findings that the failure was indeed the transmission cooler. They implied they were there during the inspecting and could confirm the failure was due to an aftermarket cooler which was poorly installed on the truck. I requested Kraft Nissan get me a quote for everything that needed to be done to repair or replace the failed parts. After having their so-called Master Transmission technician look at it they deemed (as I said in my first post) I needed a new transmission because of friction damage to the cylinoids due to complete loss of transmission fluid. I went out spoke with this master technician and he told me the same thing to the face "the thing is a wreck" he says. Their quote a wopping $3,800+ including the transmission and labor.

Now I've said before I don't know anything about transmission but that just seemed high to me. I asked a guy whom is a retired mechanic in the armed services and he recommended I get a second opinion from a company in Tally he trusted. So I payed to have the truck towed to Nationwide Transmission in Tallahassee. The guys at Nationwide Transmission was able to confirm the failure was due to an incorrectly installed cooler. Basically the previous owner of the vehicle installed this aftermarket cooler for some reason and used poor materials (rubber hoses and faulty clamps) to bypass the radiator. However Nationwide indicated there was still fluid in the transmission which was still acting as lubricant. I reminded him Kraft Nissan indicated the fuild was completely gone. He said no, that the fluid was burned up but there was still enough fluid in it to provide lubrication to the cylinoids. They also dropped the pan on the transmission and found no evidence of friction damage anywhere.

So I asked Nationwide to quote me the price for a used transmission (no more than 30,000 miles) and a new transmission. And while he indicated he wouldn't know the extent of the damage until they cracked open the tranny he provided a very reasonable quote. Used for $1,600, and new for just over $2,000. Those are the numbers I was expecting. So I requested he do what needs to diagnose the complete damage.

This is where it gets exciting. About an hour later I get a call back his first words were "This thing is making a lire of me." Of course I asked him what he was referring to and he said the first thing they did was repair the lines/leak put transmission fluid in it and take it for a ride. Of course I asked how he could do that if the cylinoids where froze, and the clutches were burned up. He said "There isn't anything wrong with this transmission. I just drove it for 10 minutes on the interstate waiting for something to fail, or the clutch to slip and it runs like a champ." He goes on to tell me they double-checked for friction damage, perform the typical service on the transmission and flush the transmission fluid. He tells me "the total bill with towing and all will be around $170 and that it's ready I can come pick it up." I said are you sure? Kraft Nissan made me believe the transmission suffered a catastrophic failure. He said Kraft Nissan didn't even crack the bottom pan open, they just looked at the transmission fluid, identified the point of failure and assumed the worse without even inspecting the transmission.

So my truck is in the driveway, it ran great on the 40-minute drive home. They did order a larger cooler for me because he said if I ever do decide to pull something of any weight the one installed wouldn't cut it for long. So I'll be taking it back for that installation.

I called the service manager that was helping me at Kraft Nissan back and told him "Nationwide Transmission inspected my truck, found no internal damage to the transmission, provided a flush and service and charged me $170. How can you justify attempting to charge me $3,800+ for a new transmission?" The phone goes silent for a few moments. To which he replies "Are you serious"!

The rest of the conversation is what you would expect, about how he's going to speak with this so-called master transmission specialist blah blah blah. I told him to do what he needs to and I'll do what I have to. He asked me what I meant by that. I told him I called the extended warranty company and let them know Kraft Nissan attempted to bill them $3,800 to replace a transmission that had nothing wrong with it. I go on to tell them I just paid $170 which included a $55 towing fee to have it fixed and drove it home. I told the company I just thought they would like to be aware of Kraft Nissan's unfair and deceptive business practices because they attempted to charge you first as the warranty company, and when you said no they attempted to deceive me into thinking the failure was catastrophic.

The warranty company indicated they would look very seriously. Rather they do or not, my truck is fixed and running great! I can highly recommend Nationwide Transmission if your in the Tallahassee area. And if you even think about having your vehicle serviced or (lord forbid) you consider buying a vehicle from Kraft Nissan shoot yourself in the foot. Or better yet just toss $5,000 out the window on your way there, chances are high you're going to loose it anyway dealing with those crooked jerks.

glad to hear that luck was in your favor. i had to deal with crooked mechanics a long time ago and after that i decided that if i cant fix it myself **** it.
