i shuffle up my music with the droid bionic and a set of skull candy buds. i am too busy riding to answer the stupid phone but i will pull over if it is my wife in case of emergencies.
Personally, I don't listen to tunes when I ride. I have learned that survival on these two wheel rockets takes intense concentration. I'm very much aware that any distraction multiplies my chances of ugly things happening. It's when I loose focus that bad things happen.
I have heard many say "I ride better when I'm rocking out to xxxxxxxxxxx"! This is a misconception of the most novice riders. Didn't we loose a memeber recently that stopped to adjust his tunes and soon after ran through an intersection resulting in a fatal crash? Loss of concentration is the common denominator in most single bike crashes.
Nick Ienatsch said it well in his book (Sport Riding Techniques) "Don't be distracted by anything that pulls your mind from the task of traffic survival".
Riding well takes an intense concentration and focus. None of the very best riders I know inject music or phones into their riding. Is this simply a matter of choice or could it be a result of experience and wisdom?
