What's the buzz all about?

A couple of thoughts:

- have you had the bike on a rear stand and tried reving it to 4500 rpm to see if you can recreate the sound?  If you can, things will be a heck of alot easier to find.

- If you can't recreate it on a rear stand, it's probably related to something on the forks: brakes, fender, etc.

- Does it only happen when the bike is under load?  In other words, does it stop if you pull in the clutch.  If so, it could be related to the drive chain, sprockets, etc.  I once used a crappy chain lube and it made my front sproket noisy.  The sound came up through the triple area making it deceptive at first.  The off clutch noise gone thing tipped me off to it.

- Have you pulled away the plastics and tried recreating it driving or on a rear stand?  The plastics have a bunch of possible buzz sources.  Plus, if you pull 'em away, you have access to tap on more things with a rubber mallot.

- Is it a high buzz or a low pitch buzz?  Metal or plastic?
I can recreate it on the stand....I can recreate it with all three plastics off.....It's a plastic type buzz(sounds like that anyway)....and.....I think I have it localized to the throttle side of my handle bars...

I'm gonna find this sum-beotch! I'm on a mission..

Do you have Helibars on you bike?

If so:

Are the Helibars secured properly, with the inside bolt in the notched groove it's meant to be in? Did you remove the windscreen when you put the Heli's on? If so, maybe those items need to be tightened? Is the throttle sleve that the grip goes on top of loose in any way and vibrating?

If not:

Are the two screws that hold the horn on tight? Are the black plastic zip-tie things on the right side of the bike that attach wires/hoses to the frame (three of them) tight?

The last bike I owned was a Monster S4 with twin carbon Arrow high-boys and a vented clutch cover. As it was, you couldn't hear much of anything from the engine.

So in going back to a Japanese four, one with stock exhaust, well, it's taking me some getting used to in terms of putting up with the oddball noises I hear from beneath the fuel tank.

I have a ticking or rattling sound coming from the top end of the motor. It's there whether the bike is hot or cold, whether I'm riding it in gear or sitting in the driveway at idle. The noise is most apparent at about 1,500 rpm, then goes away as the revs climb.

I've lifted the tank to inspect things and I've double checked the screen and fairing fastners. Nothing out of place.

I was at my shop yesterday and the head wrench listened to it, assuring me it was cam chain noise. He claims Suzuki is on the third variation of cam chain tensioner for the 'busa.

Guess I gotta learn to live with it.

Ride more, worry less... or so I'm trying.
