what's the deal with steel belt

I was told today that the OEM Battlax from Bridgestone is steel belted, reinforcing the tire flank against torsion due to the power and weight of the Busa... Now neither of the Metzeler M1 or Michelin Pilot Power is and those are the 2 replacement possibilities i was looking at...

Anybody has some info on that???

Metzeler makes a "P" spec M-1 for the busa. It has an extra ply also. But I have been using the standard M-1, as many others here have, and haven't had or heard of any problems. Just my $.00002 cents.

Now i discussed with the parts guy @ my stealership and comes out that the OEM BT56 (intended for the Busa) not only is steel belted for more rigidity but it is also thicker, giving a chance for better milleage.

I decided to use the same tire on the replacement this week, i figured 4000 miles was very good for a good sporty compound. I would only consider replacing for something else for major track days (and i'd rather have 2 sets of wheels anyway)...
