When it gets really cold outside why do you still ride?

Sometimes, when its really cold out, I'm talking like below 55 F...I wear a longsleeve shirt under my jacket...

AHHHH SAN DIEGO:poke::rofl:

I think you summed up my reasons pretty well in your first post. There's a perverse kind of joy getting to the motorcycle parking area at work and seeing who else is crazy enough to show up. Right now the Harley boys have pretty much packed it in for the year but the Beemer boys are maintaining a strong presence. I'll consider the race won when I'm the only bike parked out there....unfortunately it will probably be raining and somewhere in the 30's.

What gear do you guys wear to stay warm i'm not really diggin the leather pants is there another option i freeze in my jeans. but my leather jacket with a sweatshirt under does well for upperbody. i thank you guys for any help.

Try picking up some good chaps.. No joke, they really cut down the wind chill. You can unzip them and put them away before heading into the job.

I only ever ride for one reason...I love to ride! :)

That said, I ride as long as temperatures (air and/or surface) are not conducive to freezing. Nothing you can do about ice except not find it, b/c if ya do you can only hope to make it through without a problem.

As far as staying warm goes, that's easy with the right gear.

I don't know bro.. That aerostitch gear is some pretty tough competition, would be tough to win against that. Besides, they might have heated vests underneath all of that textile gear.

Because I'd rather ride on the outside. As long as there isn't a possibility of snow, ice or chemicals on the road, I'll ride. I'm am considering heated gear this year, I must be getting old.

And I'm going down hill enough at work to make up for Rayabusa.

Ill ride all year long , but do pick and choose my days no road salt ,wet leaves or ice and I will ride .

Biggest reason Is the Busa comes alive in the cold weather ,Like she loves the clean cold air !

That's one thing I noticed! I generally don't ride when it's below 12 C but on the few occasions I have the response is just amazing! Fuel economy goes to heck but man, she wants to go!

here is a general rule that seems to make sense.

A long time ago a friend passed this rule on to me. Although I do not go by it, it kinda makes sense.
Never ride when the temp is below your age.

:rofl::rofl:

hasn't anyone noticed that riding in the cold of winter, you don't end up with a really bad cold/flu. i noticed that just a few years ago. if i wasn't riding in the winter, i would catch a cold, horrendously sore throat and all the other symptoms which would last about 10 days. 10 days of absolute misery. with riding the bike in winter and i get a cold, then it just seems to be a tickle on my throat and a bit of sneezing,. laughable. was a bit worse last year, but not too bad.

You're right but I have a strategy....I'm saving my money up and plan on heated gear under all of my Joe Rocket stuff. Right now its Patagonia long johns and a good dose of grin 'n bear it. As long as I can avoid the deer and there isn't any ice I plan on riding all year.

ride on baby, ride on! i was the only one out that night :laugh:
