I'd go with the 1k due to the built in equity of a already discounted bike price. Also the resale standpoint would be better.
Aside from that the higher insurance cost of the 1k would push me towards the 750.
As far as getting board, I beg to differ. With the current day 750 making about 5-8% more power than any pre-1998 open classer, not to mention weighing about 100 lbs less I seriously doubt that anyone coming from a Kan-a-Tuna would be board.
