You guyz must be crazy!! No way Busa can be a 1st bike!! No way an R1 can be the first bike! No way an R6 (!!!!) should be the first bike! You shouldn't chose a Thundercat (YZF600) for first bike! You shouldn't think in a Katana for first bike!!! You SHOULD NEVER chose a bike with more than 50/60HP for first bike!!!! That's what i consider to be a smart answer...

besides that this site really rules!!! love it ppl! ;)

 Sorry, I do not agree...  There is nothing wrong with starting out on a "big bike".  I started on a 100+HP bike...  Respect is the key, that and a little healthy fear.  I'm NOT saying a Busa or any other super bike IS a GREAT starter bike, just as long as the rider is aware...  I know people who have ridden for years(+10) and I will NOT ride around.  These people should be on mopeds restricted to 15mph...

I started with a Yamaha XV535 Virago and I can tell you that the bike was still a fast bike for a first one. I don't know how you guys in the States are, but I am not a crazy driver (far from that), but I can assure you that it IS a temptation to see how fast our vehicle (being a motorcycle, a car, whateaver) can go. Although the 'R's' are great bikes, with great engines, breaks and everything, no one should chose'em for 1st... The temptation kills, and the best way to avoid that temptation is not having a fast bike... That's my opinion. Here in Portugal, most of people are unanimous that a nice bike to start is a 250cc or a 500cc like the Honda's CB250 or CB500. They run nice, nice handling, low maintenance, low price... ideal to learn how far can you go. After some months the driver can now know if he's prepared to buy a faster one, or on the opposite, if he's so scared about it that he starts thinking in buying a custom... :)

id go with a cbr 900 plenty of power, great balance yet still light. not to metion damn near bullet proof as far as mechanics go. my 2 cents

That's what the dealers want ur ass to do..buy a 600 then a liter bike like 1000 and then trade it in for the Busa. Sorry but i disagree. They make their money from newbies for trade ins. this is my 3rd bike and i wish i would have just bought the Busa to begin with. if u act ignorant on the street with any bike, it will bite u back.

Bikes with a lot of power or even cars with alot of power it all takes respect, no matter what. You really have to think about what kind of person you are. Do you have enough brains not to hop onto a busa and yank the throttle? I have done a lot of thinking over that past year about what bike is right for me. I will try and explain some of my thoughts to you guys why I will get a busa. I am not new to bikes I rode motorcross for 7 years. I know that does not mean much when it comes to street bikes but it does lay dowm the basics for bikes in general. The reason I want a busa. I do not want to buy a smaller bike and then in a year or so sell it to ger a Busa or bigger bike. As a student money is tight, I know you will say why buy a busa then. I just domt want to have to spend 5k on a smaller 600 and then sell it for nothing when I outgrow it. Another reason fot getting a busa is comfort I really want to travel the USA on my bike. Its so amazing to travel on a bike you feel so free etc. But anyway the bottom line is you have to seriously ask your self if you think you can respect your life and bike. No one can tell you whats right or wrong for you but you!

Here we go again.  First time bikers, NO BUSA.  All you guys who ride know dam well what you will try, you think a new rider won't try the same things?  Every rider is different, that is correct, but you know what you will do sooner or later.  out growing bikes is a good evolution, and worth the money, that is how you know you got better.  Stay safe gang, please don't encourage new riders to grab onto a Busa because you can.

One thing that amazed me about the throttle on the Busa is the incredible sensitivity of the response. Even a millimeter change either way has a pretty dramatic effect. For that reason alone, it's not a n00b bike. You have to have alot if "wrist" disipline keep that wild horse under control. You can go from 0-110 on the freeway with very little thought and, if I'm not paying attention, I find the Busa is most comfortable at 80mph. It's kinda difficult to make it go slower. That = Tickets...see the posts about insurance....

Oh and, one more thing, see the section on insurance

Joke? Which part? California insurance? Hell no, it's not a joke! Fuel injected high HP throttle response, no, that's not a joke either...define your incredulity Oh, who is of few words...If you've got a language problem...sorry for sounding like I'm looking down on you :>
