I use 10w40 oil in my bike but I was just wondering if anyone else uses something different. Im not asking which brand you use because that thread has already been beaten to death... Just wanna know about the weight and why.

I use 20W50 in a different bike (cruiser) but only 10W40 in the Busa year round.

Suzuki representative suggests(and sales) 15-50 by motul all year long just because of the temperatures here in Greece

I put 20w 50 in my busa because the parts store was out of 15w 40 ...I don't like the 20w 50 believe it or not I could tell a huge diffrence i bet it took off 15 hp ...it really felt sluggish after ...I will def go back to 10 or 15w 40.....and just for the record I use regular old mobile 1 full synthetic as long as it doesn't say energy conserving on the back clutches don't slip

5W-20 Mobil 1 car oil for me. It takes less energy to pump it, gets to bearings quicker, and the clutch is smoother.

5w20? Wow! Sounds good but I would be scared to spin a bearing or something. I guess I'm thinking about the transmission and how it might need a thicker oil.

I would think maybe 5w 20 would be a little thin but then agian lots of drag racers use less than zero w oil so as long as it was synthetic i would try it

I got a friend that ran zero weight in his race bike and it tore to hell so I think I'm going to stay away from that stuff. Brock likes it but he sells horse power and whatever makes the dyno sheet look better he's going to do. I just don't think its enough protection for the road and track. I was just looking for a reason to go up to 20w50 but I think I better keep it at 10w40.

Since this thread turned from who runs 20/50 to what kind of oil do you run, i will jack it also..
I run honda hp4 10/40 93 octane with michelin tires ekzzz chain 38psi in the front and 34psi in the rear and get 39 mpg

man, you are slipping......you forgot to specify if you're running DINO or part or full syn ...and also front-rear sprocket teeth count

That's right, it really doesn't matter what oil he runs

I think it's weather related brother, unless you ride in 14 or less degree F weather 20w-50 would be fine 10W-40 drops you down to -4 degrees F. I won't even ride in that. It would make me ashey ....... :poke:

I usually run castrol semi synthetic 20w50 and with that bike dynoed at 187.
I just put castrol full synthetic 10w40 in it because it was on sale same price as above but I don't like it.
Engine runs a tad hotter and is more clickety clack. Also the transmission was much smoother with the 20w50. I'll be going back as soon as I need as change.

clickety clack ??? stop showing off with technical terms. I've ran 10W-40 from the get go. I think that's what's recommended. Never had any clickety clack, but then I do run a street meg short  Gen I vs. Gen II I couldn't imagine smoother. Might have to try 20W-50.
