GMBUSA do think that the local gas station or resturant gets to process credit cards for free? Those shops dont ask you to pay more when using a credit cards then when you pay with cash, they include the overhead of the "necessity" right into the cost and spread it out...

Just need to clarify this here Cap..  I've been to many gas stations that charge you more for using a credit card.  They advertise the price per gal and identify that cash price is different than CC price.

But I understand what you are saying.
Never in my life have I seen gas offered at a reduced rate...... My next question to follow along with that would be how many times have you seen this?
it does exist... there are a fwe stations by me that do it. I also understood your point so I didn't mention it.

I always wondered though how a gas station would handle it if you said "fill it Cash" and then when it came time to pay you hand them a credit card.

Oh yea, in Jersey we don't pump our gas so we also don't pay up front. So whatever price is shown on the pump is what we pay. There's no time for a cashier to adjust for our payment method

Either way, they don't tell me I have to pay more if I use paypal.

...when I was 16 I paid for gas with a big bag of pennies. I had it precounted, but loose. They said we cant take that...I said it is all I got....they took it.

What I really hate is how buisnesses charge an way too much for shipping. Where I work, we do a lot of UPS shipping, so I have access to the shipping rates. On most small to medium parts, customers are being charged way too much for shipping. I know that companys will say they have to cover shipping expenses, but they still over charge you. You really have to watch out on ebay. They can sell things so cheap, because they make up for it on shipping. I have seen lots of awesome deals, but the shipping has kept me from purchasing the item.

Do not even get me going on shipping rates

I have seen "cash" discounts for fuel stations and almost every station around here offers 3-6 cent per gallon for using their credit card.. The cash discounts were typically about 3 cents per gallon

My point is not so much the 3%, it is the "add 3% if you pay by PP" that tends to agitate me... I figure this 3% is just part of the cost of doing business and looks ridiculous when tacked on to the price of a product when there are no genuine "free" methods of payment. Credit cards, checks, money orders all get their percentage, but you never see that added on as an extra fee...

Next rant will be about exorbitant shipping fees...(or should I say "profit center")

If I were selling stuff I would probably say if you're and adult and have a myspace or plan on paying by paypal I'm gonna charge you more! Only because I presonaly don't like 'em.

When I use PP I still ues my CC. So who makes $$ on the fees then?...the CC company.

..and I also understand your gripe. If we have to add 3% for PP why not 3% for CC also.

CC and PP are ways for compnaies to generate more business and they need to understand that use of these will increase sales and profit (no bad checks or fake $$) and they need to include fees into overhead instead of adding them.

No one takes checks any more, Money orders can be fake, sending cash is out of the question, where does that leave us?
