I can understand most of yer opinions...I guess its just me.
If a hurricane came along every couple of years and flattened my family and friends, me , personally,I'd take the money and run.
Here's one for the bible guys.....
Matthew 7:26 Twas the fool who built his house upon the sand.
no offence folks,just thinkin' outloud.
No it isn't just you.
We have a below sea level area that is and always will be subjected to hurricanes...WTF? Why not move into an igloo in death valley or a straw hut in tornado alley and then ##### when it melts or blows away?
No other safe places? When was the last time a tornado, heat wave or snow storm wiped entire BIG cities and counties right off the map in the US? Funny how when a big hurricane hits, the tornados that it spawns are considered a nuisance compared to what just happened.
Anyone who would take the insurance money and rebuild there needs their head examined.
If you rented then no loss as it wasn't yours to begin with.
Section 8/HUD? You can just as easily sponge off of society from any state.
Every year when I go to renew my homeowners insurance I get the same line from my agent..."oh it's up again because of all the hurricanes down south". Funny how I never hear how it went up because of a heat wave in Arizona or a tornado that bounced around some corn fields and took out a few homes in Kansas. I can't wait to see what it's going to be this year because of the fuggin "hurricanes down south"!
It's time the insurance companies start using common sense, if you want us to insure your house on the FL coast it better be built to withstand a hurricane just as homes in CA have earthquake standards, if not screw you. You want us to insure that new modular home that replaced one that got blown away 4 months ago? Ok, your rate is $10,000 a year.
You want to live below sea level in an area subject to hurricanes? Good luck!
But why stop there? Let's also use tax dollars to rebuild it all so it can be turned into Atlantis again!
