Why no help?

The ending was so traumatic. I'm feel so sorry for these people!

Its funny how we can storm Baghdad....with hundreds of thousands of troops in less than 48hours, but can't get aid to New Orleans in a timely manner.

I believe that the reasons for the delay are economic. It's mostly poor people that are stuck there still, the more affluent areas are deserted. Some people are trying to make it a racial issue, I've seen some really UGLY threads on the topic, but I don't think that it's racial. Nobody in government gives a $hit about poor people, no matter what their color.

I think it's a combination of that, and complete incompetence.

Go here and watch the first interview with FEMA's Brown, and how Soledad O'Briend rips him a new one for being so clueless.

They claim to only have found out (today!) that there are people at the Convention Center, even though they've been told for days now to go there for help. She then asks him why it is that news stations have better intel than FRMA does.

She then asks why it is that the Tsunami people can get food and supplies airlifted within two days, and they can't even do that on our own soil... his answer is little more than "we're gonna do it."

The link's broken, but you are prolly right. A combination of apathy and incompetence has proven deadly to Americans, again.

It's a shame but probably true, no one seems to give a rats ass about poor AMERICANS. However, poor tsunami victims get all the help they need (within 2 days).

I listened to Bush's speech. He sounds clueless, and he's the big cheese, head honcho, grand puba, or whatever.

The bald homeland security guy seems to be the token excuse maker/fall guy. If they turned on CNN you would assume they might be better informed/worried about the situation.

Moral of this disaster.

EVERY PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN WELL BEING.

SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

What an assclown! "we were busy saving lives and helping people....the sityation in Indonesia was different...." What a complete a$$hole.

Don't forget that most people didn't think it would be this bad. The poor, the rich, the gov, the citizens.

Its easy to throw blame around. Don't forget that those people stayed in New Orleans when the mayor said to get out of the city. Not saying we shouldn't help them or that the gov. couldn't have done better. Just saying its not just the gov's fault...

And don't forget, lets go ahead and rebuild the city below sealevel. We'll just make bigger levys.... Sure, allright, go right ahead and make the same mistake again...

Amazing, it didn't take long for New Orleans to become a 3rd world country or worse. No major city in the US would be any different. Something to remember if a diaster comes your way, be prepared.

Guys............Solidad Obrien and the network she works for would sell their soles to make the Bush admininstration look bad. That's an excellent example of left wing media CRAP!!

The invasion of Iraq wasn't planned in 3 days. Give me a break!!

I have customers that are in LE, military and the reserves, they were moving before the storm hit.

It's a catastrophe, things of this magnitude take time. Reconize the left wing media BS!

Disaster has come my way, several times last year. Even in the worst hit places people did not resort to attacking the ones that came to help. I also don't recall much blaming of others for one's own choice to stay.

The New Orleans mayor should have taken a lesson from Mayor Guliani and lead his people rather than complain that the rest of the country (US Gov't/me and the rest of you) isn't leading for him. He needs to get in line at the unemployment office for his hand out and let a leader take the job as Mayor.

Exactly!! People that shoot at rescuers cannot be considered human beings. People that rape, rob and assualt the survivors are SICK predators. People that rape and rob INSIDE the damn Astrodome should be burned at the stake. What totally amazing situation, truly one of America saddest times in history.

You are so right about being prepared.

One more thing, He is the Mayor, if he needs help he needs to call the next leader up the line, I guess that would be his Governer, if she can't handle it, call the Feds.

If you want an example of a leader, look no further than Our own Florida Governer, he treats the people of Florida as his own family. If you lived here last summer you would have seen it weekly on the TV as each new storm was coming.

A leader needs to care and take action, not pass the buck.

I don't think he has that skill. And I think all this has overwhelmed him.. but as I listened to him, I was thinking "where is Guiliani?" Now THAT man woulda kicked some a$$....

Disaster of that magnitude did not come your way.  Was your city as flooded or destroyed as New Orleans??  Not saying you didn't take a hit, but you didn't take a hit like this.

But you're exactly right about the mayor.

No we did not take a hit like this, but I don't think that there is a line where this type of behavior begins. I would think that it would have happened on a smaller scale if we were dealing with the same type of attitude.

Speaking for myself, I think people should attempt to be responsible for their own actions up to some degree. I don't live on the beach, but if I did and I stayed when told to leave, I wouldn't be blaming the Federal Gov't and expecting them to bail me out.

I feel for those who were unable to leave the city, like the old and injured, and people that can't walk, but I'm sure that most of those people that I see on TV yelling at the Gov't knew days ahead of time, as I did that a CAT 5 was headed their way. If it were me, I sure wouldn't still be there today, even if I had stayed during the storm. If buses can come and pick people up, there must be a road out of there. I would be hoofing it rather than expecting someone else to come save me.
