Wind effects

Haha Sometimes happens but it's not common
Honestly I can remember getting blown all around down here on I95. Sometimes you’re just in the wrong lane wrong time and a huge truck flies by. It used to blow me over a bit. Also since it so flat here a good cross breeze would catch me and I’d drift a bit. Could I be one of those things that’s always been but you just noticed it?

I noticed it before but seems more pronounced now.

You can check the tightness of the lock ring and top nut under the upper triple clamp.
You can also hold the front brake, and ease out the clutch, but not completely.
You will be able to feel excessive slack, and/or hear a knocking sound at the steering neck, if the nut is excessively loose or the bearings are worn.
If the bearings are worn, tapered bearings are better replacements than the stock ball bearings.
OK, tried all this. No clunks, no movement at all, just sits there until the rear tire breaks loose.

I think I need to try different tires.

Ram Trucks Truck GIF

we pass trucks *

Big trucks will always effect airflow, just get as far across in your lane as practical. Also lay down on the bike, the bike is very aerodynamic but you are not! We tend to ride these bikes sitting up in the wind but they are really designed for you to lay down on the tank. Try it sometime.

Hey guys, not sure if it's just me or if I have a problem... On the highway I feel like I'm getting blown around in even light wind. If a big truck passes me it's even worse.
Bike has about 15k miles, nearly new Angel GT 2 tires at stock pressures. I'm about 180 pounds.

Thoughts?
I find this odd because I have found that all three of the Busas I have owned have been extremely responsive to any crosswinds. If I allow it to, it always leans into the gust with precisely enough lean to counter the side force and track straight. This bike is aerodynamically stable both statically and dynamically. Something else is going on.

Did you change any riding gear or helmet?

Put risers on your bars or anything?

If not, it must be steering head bearings.......

Initially I suspected the steering damper but you already changed the oil....
Hi. I had a car that would not go stright it was a swerve o matic put 4 new tires on got a deal at Town Fair $ 11.00 each they were 145-70-12. Those were the days. The M&B was free too.

Then maybe tires will fix the OPs issue....

I would hope a tire wouldn't be out of true from the factory but one never knows these days....
He put 4 new Michelin tires aJag. They took it to Boston about 50 miles. One tire failed and the car was totaled I have never bought a Michelin tire untill I bought the bought the Power Cup 2 for the busa.

OK, thank you all for the tips. I think I've got it figured out. She's just going to blow in the wind a bit. I probably just need more seat time to get used to it.

On the topic of the bike following the imperfections in the road, that seems to be related to the tires.

How does everyone feel about mixing tires? Can I get a different front tire and eliminate the problem or do I need to keep front and rear the same?

You can most definately mix tires.
And, yes, a tire with a center groove can cause tracking issues with certain road conditions.
