Windows 7 help ...

Cool but here is what I get when I went to the downloads page for the OS :

Which operating system is used with your product?
» Microsoft Windows Vista
» Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)» Microsoft Windows XP
Don't see your operating system?
If your operating system is not listed above, HP does not have software or driver downloads available for this product in that operating system.

Looked good for a few seconds then window says "this update did not install sucessfully" (259)

you can use real player to convert any movie files to any other type of movie file...you can download and use it for free...http://forms.real.com/real/player/download.html?type=rpsp_us_rpcom2. as for the audio in win 7 .... the volume bar is different ..u no longer have individual controls over each input and output but you can still right click on the volume icon and see if something is muted..which is my guess..also u can use the codec from real player or quick time or other and tell media player or movie maker to use that codec

That is only a workaround for somehting that should work natively. I can use the Windows 7 Movie Maker to convert the video to something Movie Maker 2.6 will understand.

Thanks guyz, I'll try again tomorrow. - K

I know it is frustrating. from the model number of the computer you have given you are running an AZALIA sound card. While they arent the best they work.

Since they are calling it azalia this specific card was used while the specifications were under development or fine tuning since that is the codename that was used.

I have looked through to determine the manufacturer of the sound card you have but with no luck. Going by the codename for the Intel high definition audio, the following companies use or used the azalia specifications.

Realtek,[6] Conexant, Analog Devices (SoundMAX),[7] Integrated Device Technology (IDT) (acquired from SigmaTel), VIA, Wolfson Microelectronics

Just because they are using a UAA for drivers does not mean any drivers will work. Windows could be seeing the uaa support and loading a default driver they created that MIGHT run the device. Your best bet would be to find the manufacturer and get the actual sound drivers from them.

If you cant get the manufacturer from documentation you can always open the comp and get the id off the actual card or the name should be printed either on the board or the chipset(if its onboard).

Hope this helps. :)

This is who caused of all of our problems. Make it simpler...how about you get smarter.

Ok, thursday nite update ...

As a recommendation from a local tech guy and the GEEK Squad at BB. I changed the sound card to a "windows compatible" one. Still no worky :banghead:

take the new sound card. throw it through the window at bb and go key the geek squad car...when you are done check and see if the power supply for your speakers is working and plugged in...remote volume not turned down etc...

Double & tripple checked everything, tried 2 different PCI slots for the new card... I am amazed that HP doesnt have a direct answer and fix for this.

Oh and there is an X on the speaker icon at the bottom right corner of the screen, when I click on it a window says "There is a Problem ... " then it tries to diagnose ... then says " speakers or headphones are not plugged in " problem not fixed ...

i feel your pain have my sisters brand new hp and it stopped recognizing the hard drive .. they have a new driver for it, but u cant start the machine to install the driver (thanx) if they wouldnt make the mother boards so they have everything built on them there would be half as many problems...of-course then they wouldnt be so cheap to buy either... i have trouble with hp, dell, and gateway they all do it...is why my own computers are all ones I built myself from scratch..even the one i built 9 years ago still never crashes.

OOOOOOHHH Happy Day !!!! :cheerleader:

I put a new sound card in and it didnt work, I had to take it back to BB and get another one and ... TADA! It rocks!

I'm a happy camper. Thanks guys for the assist. - K
