1999/2000 have fuel issues due to gravity fed fuel pump and vapour lock. I had a perfect fuel pump, clean fuel filters and 12000 miles when the bike stranded me 800 miles from home. Battery was ok but not the issue.
Yes a stronger battery will always help but the external fuel pump on 1999/2000 suffers from serious fuel related issues when stopped or ambient temperature is high.
I added a secondary low pressure ( 3- 4 PSI) fuel pump to feed the primary fuel external pump which remedied the problem ( solution used on boats ) and since that time the bike has not failed to restart once.
You can search for the post with pictures. This is a way better and cleaner and cheaper solution than a tank swap!
