Would a Ducati 1098 "show up" a Busa

Oh yeah, and contrary to popular belief, I have not had a single issue with this bike, nothing at all finicky about it. Also, 3 yrs full warranty on everything. 3 yrs full maintenance coverage to include Ducati VIP service. Which means they will change the oil as many times as I want and use any oil that I specify, they drive to my house and trailer the bike in for service, and return it when service is complete (guaranteed to be done and returned to my house in 48 hrs, no exceptions). All valve adjustments (which are desmodromically operated by the way, no springs and sound amazing) done free for the 3 yrs (every 7k miles). The free maintenance even includes tightening and oiling the chain. I have not even bought a center stand because I just drop by the dealer and they adjust and lube the chain for me and the longest I have had to wait while they did this is 20 minutes. Usually done in 10. I spend that time talking to the smoking hot sales girls that work in clothing and accessories. Very impressive dealer support built in when buying a Duc. Yes you pay more, but hey, when you get service and treatment like this, it is worth it. Try getting Suzuki to fix 2nd gear. Again not knocking it, but owning and riding an 06 Busa really highlighted the difference.

Bud, the very minute I can buy another bike (in addition to, not gonna sell anything), it will be the "R"!  I was gonna wait and get an 09 busa if they came out in a nice black, but I rode the Duc to Idaho a few weeks ago and as long as I stretched weel at every gas stop, it was fine.  Nothing else on the road gets you through the twisties with more precision unless it is another 1098.  I brake deeper, turn harder, accelerate more agressively than on anything I have ever ridden.  No bike has the character or the passion built into it like a Ducati.  All that crap you hear about them being underpowered is just that.  It is all about power to weight ratio.  Riding the worlds most powerfull production v-twin has a lot to say for it.  Not knocking anyone elses ride but I have ridden most every Japanese bike and Aprillia's and BMW's and KTM's.  I rode everything that any dealer would let me before I bought this bike and I have never once looked back.  The sound, the torque, the soul of this bike just says...
I think you just answered the original Posters question with this paragraph. I was also looking at the 09 Busa as a purchase. Perhaps I should just keep my 04 and look at getting the Duc "R" as an addition. That vid that I posted is of the standard 1098 I believe. If that is the case, I can only imagine what it would have been like to have the "R" in it. Wowsa!

I still get butterflies in my stomach every time I fire her up before a ride. I let her warm up and rev it just to hear it before going anywhere! I stopped to see a buddy of mine that is a die hard Harley guy and owns a Bar here in Manchester. We were sitting outside shootin' the breeze and he wanted me to start the bike and just let him rev it. Most amazing sounding motor he has ever heard he said. half of the crowd in his little bar (maybe 10 people), came outside just to listen. The transmission is just velvety smooth and shifts with fantastic precision, nothing like ripping through the gears on an early sunday morning on a twisty backroad with no traffic for miles around. I am in love!

I am gonna go start her up and rev her a bit, catch up with y'all later...

Ok, it's official. I hate you!!!

LMAO

JK...

Now you need to post a vid so we can hear it too!

I just do not ride that hard on the street and so unless it was a track day bike, I would have a tough time justifying the costs.. Nice bling bike however..

I think he is just looking at the regular 1098, not the 1098R.  Honestly i dont think he knows (neither do i) the difference.

He is expecting to pay high teens for the bike.

I have also heard the Ducati bikes require frequent valve adjustment?  Is that true?
The difference is about $25,000

!!! So, unless he's got $$$$$ to burn, it's the standard 1098 (160hp AT THE CRANK everyone) but only weighing around 420 lb WET ! So, let me give you a clue ! Straight line, the Busa will take him (of course with your discribed history, he'll drop it before the race and be BANKRUPT with the repair bills), twisties he (of course this is IF he knows how to ride-- which according to your discription he doesn't)will leave you in his dust.

On the $$$$ side, well yeah, Duc's are more expensive and more maintance intensive with their desmo valve set up. But, that's kinda like saying:" All I know about Corvettes are they are expensive, so I'll stay with the Honda" ! They're a little more expensive and time comsuming on maintance, BUT NOT MUCH. I hear all this usually from people who fall in the following cats:

1) Never owned or ridden a Duc
2) Can't afford what they've got now, so only RICH guys or those with good jobs have one.
3) More maintance than the Jap bikes, but they then go spend another $5,000 to $10,000 on their Jap bike!
4) Don't like Duc's or the TYPE of people who THEY think own them.
5) Opinions based on ABSOLUTELY NO personal knowledge of cost or riding.
6) Those who want one, but can't buy one because of cost, so their just SOUR GRAPES, instead of just saving up.
7) Those who of one reason or another had one and didn't like it.

Me, I've had Duc's for

Hummmmmmmmm , well alot of years and LOVE'EM for what they are. Which the 1098 is certaintly NOT a all around bike like the Busa. IT was designed for TRACK DAYS and Racing with alittle tooling around on weekends. Believe me, YOU'LL die riding a 1098 cross country ! You wrist are at the same level as you waist, so you'll be crying UNCLE after about 2 hours on a straight road.

Hope this helps, my suggestion to your friend,

LEARN TO RIDE WHAT YOU'VE GOT FIRST, before you get on a Bike that will turn you to tears

if you drop it !

OH YEAH, the BUSA is a BETTER BIKE in 90% of the time against ANY DUCATI

. As they say, I've become a TRUE BELIEVER

Want some advice? Don't race him. That, or only beat him by a small margin and blame it on the weather or something. Blowing his doors off will only make matters worse. Better yet, be the bigger man and let the guy have his win.

You realize this will never end, right?

Of course, if he gets way too cocky or just won't shut up. Then by all means, put the smackdown on him.

if he wants something doffrent, and since hes on the short side tell him the get a Triumph Daytona 675. its a 3cyl bike that is pretty powerfull, its also narrower so there is more leg room.

Here is a good sound clip:
