Ladies-
I'm not singling out PPD, or meaning to trivialize it in any way. I'm not implying that women are somehow more suceptible to depression or any mental problems. What I said applies to both genders. I'm sure that some cases of PPD and other forms of depression are treatable by meds, but we as a society have become entirely too dependent on "symptom maskers" rather than cures.
Ok...Treatment by medication and therepy CAN BE A CURE. But it is up to the patient to follow through.
I nor my doctor masked any symptoms. We treated them and I am fine now.
Pain medicine "masks" pain...so dont take it? Yes you have to take it in order for your body to heal right from any injury or surgery.
This is an argument that can go on and on forever.
Point is, the drugs that have come out recently are made to improve your way of living. Viagra helps old men get it up. Vicoden helps you get out of bed after surgery, anti depressants help you get out of bed and FACE THE DAY. so on and so on.
As far as depression and "mental illness" go...therepy too is needed in many cases.
There is not a cure for every disease out there, but now there are TREATMENTS to help you get through life while your body fights the disease on a daily basis.
