WTF???????

Is it infectious?

I don't think you have to worry about it..........

Mostly I'm just playing Devils advocate, I did find the Buell Quirky, and the motor is still a fossil, incrimental changes and modern gasket technology does not make a new motor.

But mostly I could give two sh!ts One bike isn't and never was in mass production, the other is yet another Crippled American Bike...

Just playing. I am still angry that I have to ride a Japanese bike if I want a true fast sportbike, pissed off that after over 100 years Hardley hasn't built a decent fast sportbike. Hell VR1000 had me excited, program died, that sucks.

But mostly I'm just playing.

"Rumor" has it that HD is planning some new, additional models around the V-Rod motor for '07. I would be suprised if that doesn't include a more sporting version. A Firebolt with a liquid cooled, enhanced Rod motor would be sweet. It still wouldn't be on par with todays liter bikes in terms of out and out power...but it would most definitely be a step in the right direction.

You are right Rev. It is a shame that the US cannot/will not build a machine that competes with the best from Japan.

Maybe someday!

I had a `98 White Lightning and it was an oddball, but an interesting oddball. The engine ran out of breath early and it only dyno'd 84/84 at the wheel (with my jetting/tuning) but that torque was everywhere in the powerband. It handled v-e-r-y well and was ideally suited to short, tight twisties where you could lug through as quickly or quicker than 4-cylinder screamers (great for Deal's Gap type of riding). That was about the only thing it did really well but it was torquey fun for "squirting" around town. Both sportbikers and Harley riders shunned the poor Buell so it was a rebel riding experience which didn't bother me at all. What did bother me was its limited focus. This year, I looked at the newest Buells and tried to make myself like them...unsuccessfully. I could live with their strange appearance if they could make 30 to 40 more HP without losing their wonderful spread of torque. I met and talked with Erik in Daytona a few years ago and he certainly was a bright guy. Genius? Ummmm, maybe.

I compare the old school Buells to a 1969 bigblock Chevelle.  Fat, TONS of torque, a total kick to rip on short runs.....but if you want to GO anywhere....or you are into todays tech....not for you.

I rode a X-1 lightning for a season in '02.  Fuel injection, with a VH can and a pwr commander.  Dam thing shook like hell!!!  Always had to double check bolts and nuts...but it was an animal in first gear!  All it took was a twist @ about 2500 rpm and up came the front wheel...

Only took it on one decent "ride"....wouldn't do that again!

But the sound, and the monstrous torque down low made it a hoot to ride.

Good analogy--couldn't agree more.
