ZERO GRAVITY R&D

I would just like to add once again that Zero Gravity is sending "four" totally different screens to Me. Two are proto types that have never seen, not even by Me!

These Screens will be run with various different combonation which include Street Busa's & Drag Busa's.

When I'm finished, your input along with mine, it will be sent back to Zero Gravity.

I get the impression that they(Zero Gravity) want to build the best Screen possible for all Busa riders?! (thats why I got involved with this prodject)

You guy's are giving some great info and that really helps!!!

Thanks & keep'em coming...!

Damn, I'm glad I haven't bought mine yet. I was going to get the light blue sport touring screen, but I'll wait to see what you think of the prototypes, and the likelihood of getting a production one if they turn out well.

Hi Frank! I tuck behind my ZG DB dark smoke at full speed virtually every time I ride. Thru screen optics are near-perfect. No "cowl shake" at any speed.

I'm 6 feet, 185 and much younger than you (in spirit). :)

Best screen I ever seen.

Through that is.

Double Bubble works well for it's design. The Sport Touring model needs trailing edge flipped up. Both need added thickness. Shatterproof would be nice.

Frank,
Have the smoke color DB. Optics are pretty good in daylight, a little hard to see thru at night without any background lighting. Know what I'm saying? Seeing gauges is big plus. We should not have to add the tape to get a snugger fit, tabs should be thicker. I, like others, think the screens should have a finished edge along the top like the factory screen has. This bike gets high marks for fit & finish and if a part is added it should be of equal or better quality. Also agree that shatterproof is safety concern. I'm 5'-9" and wind hits at helmet level. Screen shape easy for me to hide behind. Jack

Frank - I have the double bubble and have likes and dislikes. First - I don't drag race, but I do a lot of "sport trouring", so that's my focus.

Likes:

1. Can see guages clearly (turn signals, heart of the speedo)
2. The bubble gives me just enought additional wind protection to be useful when I have a tank bag on - which is most of the time.
3. Can see through the smoke just fine and prefer that look to a clear screen

Dislikes:

1. Too thin
2. Doesn't fit as well as the OEM
3. Straight edge around the rim - I prefer the lip similar to the oem.

insinu8, it could take a good while before any of this makes to the market?!
You could always get rid of your first screen, not everybody that owns a Busa visits this site, or even knows that something like this is going on??

Dp, how well can you see through that screen at night?

Has any one tried the lockhart philips euro screen (with the "fliped up" edge)? I have one on my R1 and it works pretty good at speed. Post a link to a picture if you have one.

Frank, like Factory, I'm concerned with sport-touring applications. I'm 5'10", and just installed the Double Bubble this week. Last month, it got down to the mid-30s on the way home late at night, and I was hoping to try out the difference in cold wind protection. I got the screen a little late in shipping, now its not really that cold. But, I have noticed a slight reduction in wind force hitting me on the interstate.
I don't go down the road like grandpa with the turnsignals on, because I can now see the dash indicators.
I'm with Factory on the dislikes, too.
(I've got to get me some risers; I must love this bike to put up with this tuck. I'm too used to an Interceptor tuck).

I guess I'll await the outcome of the testing. So which is better from the current selection? Double bubble, or sport tour?

*********************************************
I NOW HAVE ALL FOUR SCREENS
*********************************************

I would like to give everyone a quick update on where things are at with this prodject.

Yesterday I recieved the four different Zero Gravity wind screens.

Here is a description of what came:

1. Double Bubble (smoke tint)
2. Sport Touring (smoke tint)
3. "low cut" Double Bubble (smoke tint)
4. Type X (smoke tint)

The two that hasn't been seen before are #3&4.
I'll try to give a brief discription of what those two look like.

#3 looks similar to the Double Bubble but has a nice notched area at the top like this---> (
The center of the notch drops about 2" lower then on the original Double Bubble.

#4 looks like the stock screen and the LP euro screen. The difference I see here is that the tint isn't as dark as the LP euro screen.
And the visibility is better then the stock one.

I sould start testing with these screens starting sometime next week. Right now I have no ideal how long the testing of each screen will take?

I will try to post pics of what the screens 3&4 look like as I get them mounted later on?!!

Thanks everybody for the input you've given so far!

I think you should post pics of all 4...on the bike. I only really know what the double bubble looks like right now, and I'm very interested in this topic because I will be buying a new screen sometime soon. Thanks for your work!

I ordered a DB through my Suzuki dealer 2 weeks before I picked up my Blue busa. He tells me they are on back order. Does anyone know were they have them in stock mail order?

Sorry I'm late, and without much content to boot. I put about 500 miles on standard double bubble, no fit problems, but with my GenMars it reduced wind blast, but not really very much [5'9'' tall]. I also use it primarily as a sport tourer, and from the foregoing responses, would probably have preferred the Sport Tourer.

I didn't get it because Zero G said they "hadn't tested it above 120MPH", and I didn't feel like being a guinea pig in a high speed stability test. Anyone have comments about Sport Tourer stability [you unsuspecting guinea pigs out there, I mean].

Thanks for the info on the sport touring screen.

When the time comes, I'll defently find out why there are two different types screens under the same name.

Thanks for the info!

My ST has bit of a lip. I have noticed no instability or 'flapping' at speed. Have had it up to around 160 with no problems, with a strong tailwind. Maybe with a headwind I would have noticed some flapping.

I just received my clear Sport Touring windscreen today. It does NOT have a lip on it at all and seemed to be a bit flimsy as I installed it. It's $70 plus shipping. For that much money I hope it doesn't flap around at high speeds like some here have said! At first glance it is a lot higher than the stock screen and somewhat dorky looking. I won't mind as long as it performs!

Just back from the test ride with the new clear Sport Touring wind screen. I brought it up to 150mph with no problems at all. I can't wait to tuck behind it on a rainy day as I know I can stay dry behind this big thing! Reminds me of a concours windscreen when I look at it quickly.

Although nearly all of my riding is "sport touring" (at speeds well over 120 mph), I didn't go with the tour version because I didn't like the way it looked at all!

The DB looks great and is functional!
