I rode up to the Prostar today, saw rickey go 9.48 @ 150.6 . The front end looked airborne when he hit second gear. They bolted a pipe on it before he made the run.

Muzzy pipe by any chance?

So it would be fair to say that you saw a handbuilt blueprinted and now modified Kawasaki rode by a professional rider who is currently on top of his game.

Suzuki never pulled any marketing BS like this, I think they are going out of their way to pump up the hype and the ZX12 will probably be a disapointment. Not much more than a ZX9 on steroids.

Turbo Rick seems to be kicking up some serious salt on the other hand :)

I would say he might have gone in the 30's, but the second gear wheelie screwed it up.

That's about the same times we've seen posted that were made by mildly modified Busas.

If Rickey is running sub-9.5 at 150+ on that bike, that is an accomplishment in its own right. I wouldn't knock it. Nobody knows what it means for showroom bike vs. showroom bike, as in magazine tests. We'll have to wait a little longer for that. Let's hope the verdict is in before 2001.

Agreed - the time is good. So now we know what times that a pre production 1200 cc Kawasaki that has been lowered, stock exhaust removed and replaced with race exhaust, no stock cats(like the production model), remapping? and ridden by a professional drag racer is capable of.(unless there was more done to the bike that we don't know about) I would be more interested if there were a Busa running beside it with the same mods and a professional rider which is the only way I can see this 'stunt' being comparable. How much longer till we see what a real production STOCK model is capable of in the hands of the same multitude that tested a stock Busa?

Marty (dragbike.com) also said that a stock Hayabusa with a qualified rider ran 9.53 seconds on the Busa mailing list today.
I'm assuming this was really a STOCK bike.

Shine has ran sub 9.5 on a Stock busa w/no exhaust, only modifications being lowered, clutch mod and shift pattern reversed.

The busa he ran on wasn't even his, it was this other dude's (whom i've smoked myself with my yosh-piped busa.) So the point is i'm sure if you give shine a busa, let him snort it around for a few months, throw a pipe on it and drop it, he'll be more than enough comp for Ricky's 9.48...IMHO
