zx-12R OFFICIAL SPEED RUNS

I would like to offer some sensible commentary as well.

The 12 is going to smoke the Busa!

This commentary is not only sensible but succinct as well.

without getting too inflammatory here is a comparison of the 12 and busa gearing:

overall gear ratios
1st busa 9.82---12 9.69
2nd busa 7.26---12 7.26
3rd busa 5.73---12 5.74
4th busa 4.82---12 4.99
5th busa 4.26---12 4.51
6th busa 3.91---12 4.12

Note the 12 rear tire has a 1.5% larger circumference than the busa rear.

Here are some 6th gear speed vs rpm numbers for the 12:
at 10000 rpm 179.5 mph
at 10500 rpm 188.4 mph
at 10750 rpm 193.4 mph
at 11000 rpm 197.4 mph
at 11250 rpm 201.9 mph

Thanx DC we will be avidly reading your commentary on the 12. You did a fine job on the Busa last year.

Thanks for all your interest and good comments.
I'm sure you'll all be interested to know that MCN will be testing ZX-12R, Hayabusa and Super Blackbird together, same place, same rider very very soon.
That is the only test that will decide which is really the fastest bike.
Kawasaki is still claiming its bike will beat the Busa flat-out – it just hasn't beaten the speed we had out of the Busa yet.
Now, I don't remember a whole lot of difficulty in getting 194mph from a Hayabusa. We got 193mph first go in Britain (and it was damp and windy, as usual!) and 194mph on an 8mph speed bowl at Nardo (Italy). Some Spanish pals got 195mph over there.
The ZX-12 is consistently going no more than 190mph anywhere!
Kawasaki spent all day on a two-mile former airstrip trying to beat that 190.8mph figure. By the way, It is the only time I can remember a manufacturer making its speed tests public.

Those who asked... yes I love the abusa (I've still got it for a week or so) and yes I am having a ZX-12R (within a few weeks). I will be using motorcyclenews.com to do my web reports on the ZX-12R. It should be kicking in a month or so.

Hey guys
I havent been on here for a while.
If you read the first test for the 12 you will find quoted :
"Running up to the red line through the gears is an education in itself and within a very short space of time the clock shows an impressive 200mph. Hold it flat-out for long enough and it will show another 20mph. "

Obviously the clock will show 220mph. My $0.02 worth would say that it will be closer to a genuine 200 than the Busa. It has the horsepower, although even if it has less static HP than the Busa I would think it would have a higher top end due too slightly better aeros and better ram air.

Flame away anyhow.
Im forgetting the 4 cylinder scene for a while anyway. Think I'll go an buy a twin.
