Took a **** (word edited out for the sake of those who still can't) today and had the opportunity to test out my new GoPro LCD BacPac. Not gonna post pics of unit itself as these are easy to find. What I am gonna do is tell you the good and the bad on it with actual pics of it being used. Screen has a button on side of new case back which has multi functions. It is used to turn screen on or off to save battery life as well as adjust volume and select playback or video capture. While playing with it in my office for about thirty minutes it used about a third of the battery.

Ok first the good....

PLAYBACK OF VIDEO.
Very good as you can see...

During playback you can push and hold the top button for rewind....

You can also push and hold front button for fast forward....

Screenshot of it during playback...

So while sitting inside checking out what you've captured it works great.

Now for the bad news. The main purpose I bought it for which is to line up shots and the camera more easily it does not do so well as you can again see.
In the case on the bike it's difficult to actually see the display. Initially it was terrible then I discovered it does have a brightness setting. I set this to max, all the way up but still it was difficult to see.

On the bike in the shade under carport...

On the bike out in the sun as it would be before you pull away.
You can't see if it's lined up. Can't see if angle is correct.

Out in sun on bike a close up of display with my hand shading it.
Very difficult to see anything.

If you turn camera down to better see display it works as you see here but then this defeats the purpose of being able to line it up and make sure you're getting angle that you want..

So all in all on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 7. Does everything it says it's supposed to but lacks in the one most important aspect considerably.
For this reason I'm ok with it but not ecstatic I finally got it and have it.

There you go Keith/Skydivr your official Blanca review.

Can you just wrap some electrical tape around the back of the case to stop the sun from getting in there?? Just a thought...
:beerchug:

I went to take mine out the other day and i noticed the power button was stuck down. I never droped it or dammaged it in any way at all.

I haven't used mine yet Saiid, but another advantage is that the settings now appear on the screen and are more fully explained. MUCH easier to change settings with the backpack than to try and read/understand what all the little icons meant on the front screen. I too am curious to see how it effects battery life.

radio shack carries an anti glare potective covering, cut to size, and it might work..going to try some on my gps unit for same problem as the camera

i thought of getting the addon back screen but my first thought was battery life..and mine is mounted to the top or front of my helmet so i cant see the screen anyway if i got one..

good review...thanks:thumbsup:

No...but it will help you check that you have a good camera angle on the helmet before you put it back on....

Saiid, have you looked into the new GoPro Hero2? If so, what's your opinion?

Nice . I want to get one for mine . I hate not being able to see if the damn thing is lined up right

Opinion is its better than the one I have :)
New one has a few new features and capabilities and I'm sure it's improved all the way around.
ChattanoogaBusa got one and has posted a few vids so far. I'm trying to work one into my stocking :)
Then I'll sell the current one I have cheap and quick.

On the new Hero2 I like:

LEDs on all side so now more having to stare into camera to see if it's on.
The camera angles are improved and can do 170 degrees now.
Mini hdmi port
External stereo microphone port (hopefully this will capture really good bike sound)
Wifi remote control
Wifi streaming to web (still not sure if you can stream realtime to net while your riding?)
Wifi camera control thru smartphone app so I imagine you won't even need to look at camera for settings?
Hopefully it will also show camera angle so you can line it up?

Bunch of other stuff too...

Specs on wifi bacpac:

GoPro Wi-Fi BacPac & Remote

Says live video streaming as long as your in a wifi hotspot. So I guess it will be cool for many applications, just not motorcycle riding because I doubt anyone can go for a ride and be in a wifi hotspot all the time.

You can creat your own hotspots though right? How would you and could this be carried on ones person so folks could voyeuristicaly live thru another's rides? How cool would that be to tune into the Pashnit channel and watch him take a cruise real time?
