Trying to replace sprocket on my Gixxer. Stripped one of the nuts (47.5 ft/lbs, my azz!) they sure are soft!

So now, how the heck do I get that remaining nut off to replace the sprocket wthout ruining the bold (hub)? :banghead::banghead::banghead: nothing EVER goes easy when I start wrenching i'm jinxed!

Bummer

Obvious one. Can't get view grips on it?
Smaller socket/wrench tapped onto it?

I don't know?

It's ok to scream

Tried tapping socket down, just too dang soft. Vice grips went thru it like a hot knife thru butter. I mean, these bolts are S - O - F - T...just don't want to damage hub bolt and end up having to replace hub for a freakin nut!

I shoulda used an impact wrench (like Charlie did). Thanks for the link Daniel.

Hey dude, I'm confused as to exactly what you are having a problem with?

You rounded off the corners of a nut on the sprocket hub? Is this correct?

Call me in the morning and we'll figure out what the problem is and how to resolve it!

I have used the Craftsman set above on striped bolts and it has worked quite well. You could also try to use a dremel and cut grooves into the nut the give the tool set something to really grab on to.

The sprocket bolts aren't replaceable??
If one screws with me I just grind the nut off flush with the old sprocket, and replace the whole bolt/nut set. They don't cost that much.

Yes.

Replace whole nut/bolt set? There's no part number fot that.

Could try grinding or filing a new gripping surface on opposing sides of the nut. Being the nut is soft, and will be softer after material is removed, don't over tighten the vise grips as this will add resistance. A little heat never hurts either. If that doesn't work, plan B would be as stretch said, drill or dremel and split the nut.

What model/year Gixxer is it? If they're replaceable, there's a part # somewhere.

Edit: Did a little looking using an '08 GSXR1000 for an example. And no, the bolts aren't replaceable, gotta replace the whole "drum" for $161. Man, that's a planned rip off design if I ever seen one.

Which is why I don't want to damage the drum.

I think my dad's got an impact wrench may have to try that...

you can get a nut splitter from the parts store that you should be able to get on there if the extractor sockets dont work, or a if you have any mechanic friends theyll have one.

are these the stock nuts or some aftermarket ones?

I'd just grind it all the way flush and she'll come right off. Then head to your local Suzuki parts place that has a salvage yard of bikes and parts and see if they'll give you one for a dollar or two. I KNOW they'll have a hundred laying around. I really think you can order it new individually though, see what the shop says.

If you don't have a suzuki part+salvage shop like that near you, pm me and I'll go to mine down the street and send you one.

If nothing else, ebay has entire hub and sprocket assemblies (meaning now you'll have extra studs/bolts) for $20-$40.
