1st ride w/ 42t on rear

You don't need to modify your chain with 16/42 on a stock swingarm. You can go with the 112 link chain and be about right where you are now....

I was riding 17-40 stock until first chain change then went to 16-43 + Yellow Box,... Well it was very nice, altho top speed was now 290 Km/h... Still would be very fun to wheelie in 1-2-3... But I just changed my chain again.. and now I went back to a little more conservative.. 17-43.. Always like better to have more teeth on the rear than less in the front!

For aceleration purpuse the 16-43 was of almost no use.. at 3000RPM the nose would be up and you'd have to throttle back to 1/2 not to back flip.. So I hope I will be on the spot with that 17-43.. Witch is by the was about .05% diff with 16-40.... 16-43 = 15% Change in gear ratio... 17-43 = 7,5% Ratio Change, and 16-40 = 6,25% Ratio CHange.. Finally 17-42 = 5% Ratio change... So just for the fun of a stock wheelbase.. you can pick anything that is below 10% change.. my .02

15 was way too much sacrifice on top speed.. 7,5% change still get me about 315 KM/H on the speedo!

Thanks Moondog.

So...If I don't have to get a longer chain to run the 16/42, I am willing to try it now.

Is the concensus that a change is definately felt just by adding the two teeth to the rear??? ( I already have the 16t on the front.)

Oh, ya....you will feel it in the seat of your pants. Cheapest bang for the buck, for sure!!!

I love a 42 in the back , I've got a 16 to put on the front just haven't done it yet.

Putting the front on was a pain, just because you have so much stuff to take apart before you get to the sprocket. However, it gives a guy the chance to inspect and tighten everything on the left side. I have the right side off all the time to change the oil but that was the first time on the left. You will find out where all your "chain wax" went, it's now a sandy lump around the front sprocket. Make sure you use thread locker and torque both the sprocket nut and the speed sensor rotor, I hear the rotor has a nasty habit of coming loose, tearing up the case. Sorry if I'm rambling, toothache, lots of Daravon. Long night!!!!

Ramble On by all means, moondog (yeah, Led Zep fan here
