2003 Gsxr1000

I put a pair of these inside the nose of mine several years ago and they are awesome! They will get your attention for sure. If you have the space!

What model Hella's are those?
And do you know what diameter they are?

I'm pretty sure I can get one of these under the seats too.
Once I confirm the exact size, if it does fit, I'm ordering a black one .

Most likely....

I often check out videos by "Kaplan Cycles" as they pick up all kinds of bikes to resell......over the years they've had everything.

I watched one of their videos where they picked up an entire collection of bikes-25 or so....it was interesting.

Yeah, I like videos like that too...they scare me...as I never know what I end up not being able to resist and dragging home
lol

I'm taking the passenger pegs off so I needed a muffler bracket.
So another custom part from my old man's workshop, made out of some 1/8" stainless steel left over from my workbench top a few years ago.
It lifts the muffler higher up and tucks it alot closer to the bike than when it was mounted to the passenger peg.
I still need to shorten the 3 ss mounting bolts, and I have ss nylon lock nuts for them, there is also a rubber washer between the muffler hanger and the mount, to help with any vibrations.
I'm going to cut one or two inches off length off the muffler too, whatever the eyes says makes for better lines with the tail.
The tail isn't bolted down either, and why the cowl isn't sitting correctly.
The muffler can still move up a little more as well, but where it is paralells the tail prettyy evenly.
I'm going to use the passenger peg mounting holes on the other side for another custom ss bracket, to mount the preload adjuster from an aftermarket rear shock.
Still lots left to do, but progress.
Little by little, it's getting there.

That bracket looks awesome.....like a factory piece....

I'm finally back to working on this...and just ordered a bunch more parts, and hopefully getting close to having everything so it can be 'done' ...lol.
I've had a new aftermarket undertail, and my Dad was by today, so he took the old one and an old license plate, and is going to make me a custom tag mount.
He's made alot of them for me over the years, including the '18 Gsxr1k, they're all a little different, bike dependant, and are as small and invisible as possible, but still strong.
I also talked to him about my next project on it, a rear shock.
I can't really jusity $3k+ suspension on this thing(no matter how much I tried, lol)
So I spent days looking at used aftermarket, and anything oem from multiple bikes that may work.
I finally have a budget game plan(even though I blew the budget a long time ago, lol)
I measured the shock on the '18 Gsxr1k, which is the R model, with the Showa remote resivor forks and a much better rear shock.
It is only about 10mm shorter(the '03/'04 Gsxr1k's had the tallest rear shocks to date, and one thing I disliked about them)
The width of the upper mount/clevis is the same, but in '09 Suzuki changed the lower clevis from female to male, so the Showa shock won't bolt in...so another old Dad project is in the works.
I found several Showa shocks in the $250+ range, but got one from a '21 model part-out for $140!
It looks new, and the bronze color kind of goes with the gold forks, rotor centers, and chain.
It should be here by next weekend, and I can remove it's lower clevis and see exactly what needs to be done, as it has a smaller diameter thread.
The Showa also has the compression and rebound adjustments on the top, so there is no need to modify the compression adjuster in the '03 clevis.
I also ordered a set of Soupy's adjustable lower links, +2" to -2" of range, so fine tuning the height will be simple, especially since they adjust on the bike.
With tax the shock was $147, and the links were $147, so I should have a really good performing rear shock setup for under $300.
I'm also going to order a pair of Race-Tech fork springs that are a little heavier than the oem ones, for $150.
I'm still undecided if I should get their Gold valves to go with them for another $360.
I already have fork seals and oil on the way.
Either way, this will be a big step up from stock handling.

Should do the trick nicely.......

My '02 Gixxer had Race Tech springs up front and and an Ohlin's spring out back on a rebuilt shock and they worked great....

I also ordered the following
Vortex Rearsets
A Brembo short brake lever(ASV now says they don't have one yet for that model Brembo master cylinder).
A Mag-Knight magnetic tank bra in matte black.
I had a carbon fiber looking one on my '02 Gsxr1k years ago, and really liked it.
I was happy they were still in business.
I've never been one to need grip on the tank, but this will prevent knee pucks and zips from beating up the powdercoated tank, even though they did claim their coating to be strong.
An Anti-Gravity ATX-12 lithium battery, with 360 cca(stock lead-acid has 180cca), a Rick's Electrics lithium mosfet regulator/rectifier, and lithium battery-tender pigtail with battery life indicator on the plug(that actually came today).
Titanium rear sprocket lock-nuts with nylon inserts.
I will probably get a titanium axle nut to match, for the full farkle effect, lol.
I sent my guages to ScottsBlueGuages last week for all white leds, and he is also going to install a wired dimmer knob or switch.
I'm searching for a good seat cover, and have emailed Luimoto about the price on full suede, vs their $60 vinyl cover, so I should hear back next week.
I'm probably going to order a front and rear pair of black axle sliders/pucks.
As well as top mount adjustable steering dampner.
I'll still need mirrors, nuts and bolts, and a few other small things, but having the majority of the parts that I need to get the bike on the road, will help my motivation to get it done sooner than later.
Pictures to follow as parts show up and more progress is made.
The plan is to ride it again by spring, so 4 months...ish.

I finally rebuilt the waterpump and put it back on...now it will stop leaking oil, lol.
I filled the oil months ago, as a better safe than sorry...then removed the waterpump for a rebuild.
The waterpump fits into the case, but the 3/4 full in the site glass has the oil level just above the opening for the waterpump, so oil will slowly leak out...dummy.
So, the genious fix was to put a latex glove in the hole, and a plastic pan under the bike, which worked pretty good.
So, now months later, a working water pump is back in...and no more oil leak, lol
All this is basically the same as the Busa's too.

I also forget how many small jobs that I have left to do on this.
I have to rebuild the rear master cylinder.
Easy to do, but I need to spend some time cleaning it all first, and wire wheel the black spray paint off of the housing.
New Vortex Rearsets are on the way too, to replace these beat stock ones, and if I remember correctly, they don't have a bracket to mount the brake light switch, so more small parts to make.
