I talked to the Mgr of a dealership here today (I am flirting with buying an R1 from him to use as a track bike but the Ducati pull is still strong in this one) and he informed that the owner (who has 2 dealerships in LA) had purchased 50 Gen IIs and 4 of them were left - not bad in a market this small.
When I asked him of his thoughts on this question he informed that sales were far less brisk with the '08. Initially, they were strong, but after that initial push things slowed way down.
My wife, an oRg. regular, asked about the changing of the trailing end and he said that dealerships were accused of being behind that change but that he (a former vendor of aftermarket and factory parts) did not know of a single dealership who even had an opinion on the matter. Far as I can see the ONLY reason anyone would shy away from the new Busa is the tail section. Hell, to me the whole bike is still pretty awesome (especially when one places the gold wheels from the blue model on the gray / black version, which this dealership did as a marketing experiment) but to date, I have not bought one so... not, awesome enough yet.
I hate sounding like a broken record, but where is my copper / silver 10 yr. anniv. edition da*mit!!!
