Had the hair-brained idea to go check out Burney Falls, a huge waterfall nearby that's not fed by a river but has the water shooting straight out of a rock wall, but as we got close, this was the traffic. Ya that's a nope from me. Time for a detour. Anybody up for lunch?

Fortunately, I knew a shortcut around Burney Falls/Highway 89. What no one tells you is in Far North California, there are very few paved roads.

Mostly all national forest up here. In the flat valleys between the ranges, they grow alfalfa and ship out truckloads of hay. This fella was busily polishing his truck.

There are some Ice Caves up here that I thought to check out. But next time. Year round ice in lava tubes. Sounds cool!

We're also really close to Glass Mountain along the Oregon border. But again, we'll check that out on another ride. A mountain of obsidian. Pretty cool!

The road to Glass Mountain is 3 miles up a dirt fire road. However, the view is amazing!

Looking east into Nevada.

Obsidian lava flows w/ Mount Shasta in the background.

This is the start of the Cascade Range which stretches to the Canadian border.

Far North California, edging into the Southern Cascade Range. Lots of straight road up here through endless forests.

14,000 ft Mount Shasta comes into view

Stewart Springs Rd connects Weed with the base of the Scott Mountain Summit and runs parallel to Gazelle Callahan Rd on the south side of the range. The remoteness also makes it a favorite of bicyclists. Up and over the range, and throw in the twisty adrenaline-fuelled accent to the Scott Mountain Summit makes for super-fun motorcycle ride.

Reaching the summit: 8542 ft China Mountain in one direction, 9025 ft Mount Eddy in the other direction

Notice anything unique about the bikes? The topcases. We've all evolved into using topcases. Much easier for weekend-rides. People complain top cases don't look right on the Hayabusa.

They are correct.

But the convenience trumps your personal issues with my bike.

Never too old to start
Monya started riding at age 65, bought her very first motorcycle at age 65 & has ridden 27,000 miles in two years while commuting to CA from TX for Pashnit Tours.
She signed up for every Pashnit Tour I've offered this 2021 ride season.

After taking a year off for Covid, Ken is back from Utah to ride nearly every tour we offer

Bruce rode with us over 10 years ago as a regular, then we didn't see him for a decade, and now he's back riding on every other ride.

This was Bruce in 2006 coming to see us at the International Motorcycle Show.

Now his little one pictured here is 16 yrs old & in high school.

We had the road entirely to ourselves. Left early at 7am and zero other people out on the roads

Mine tailings cover this river valley when the river bottom was dredged for gold. $35M in gold was pulled from the Trinity River.

All those mounds of rock are tailings from dredging
