…’brochure’… Sure is a difference in topography all right. North of Winnemucca NV for example, to Burns OR and east from there is all desert until you get to Idaho but over 4,000’ in elevation. Nothing at all like the western half of the state, the green half. Nice pics Tim.
The reason for Powers, Oregon, even though there's nothing in this town, a tiny general store and that's it - is the main road ends here. One paved road into the town and that's it. But headed south out of Powers we can head east up and over the Coast Range.
The wide two lane doesn't last. It feels more and more remote and the road goes from wide two lane to narrow, and more narrow.
There's only one paved-single-lane logging road up and over the range.
These logging roads are so remote, they don't even have names, this one is BLM 32, just numbers - but this one is paved all the way across the range up and over Mount Bolivar.
Misty redwoods in the sky. I’ve enjoyed this effect under the old growth giants in Humboldt and Del Norte counties. It’s almost magical, like a made up place. Those that haven’t ventured out to (our) coasts are really missing out on an unforgettable experience. Great pics!
Oh, it’s 101 north of Leggett Tim not hiway 1. Just a typo I know.
As we reach the summit of the range on BLM 32, we get into swaths of logging & wide open views. We were here on this same road a few years ago and it was all freshly clear-cut. Now a few years later, the entire clear cut has been replanted and the trees grow back quickly.
The new pines can grow 1 foot in height per year.
They still have logging here in Oregon, something we really don't do anymore in California. The logging companies maintain the roads and these single lane goat trails are surprisingly in great shape and smooth. Super awesome views!
