I am approaching 38k miles on my stock Brigstone Battlax j. I think it will do over 4,ooo!
Am I riding like a priest? Or does the Scottish roads have something other than rain and cold on them?

The dealer wants to submit them for forensic examination?

Must be the roads!!I've got 2,029miles so far, mostly commute miles and some blasting thru the gears and the back tires have lots of tread left, front tire looks good also.Keep my tires at 42psi,cold.

I know of someone that has about 4500 miles on the rear and can probably go another 1000 until he needs to change it.

I'm on my third rear in 12,000 km (8,000 miles) and have never done a BZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!! style burnout.

But I use full throttle every chance that presents itself.

OE Slipstone 2,500 miles; ME Z3 3,000 miles; tx25 200, 2,500 miles and still going very strong (looks like this will be the mileage AND drag traction champ.).

I take a tire down to the wear bars then cast it out. Actually I keep them for garage seating.

If uncompromising cornering traction is what you want, the ME Z3 has been the best for me.

I'm at about 4300 mile now and my tire still looks good ??

How far will it go?? been up to 150+ alot..

Abusa it till it,s slick..

I got about 4,000 miles out of my original rear (realistically) then went on a road trip and have ended up with 5K but it's pretty far gone in the center now. Need to get my new $147 Vegas special OEM rear replacement put on yesterday!

I have 4200 miles on mine, no burn-outs, mostly back and forth to work and weekend road trips. I will have the shop put a new one on when I bring it in to have it winterized next month.

Dirty Pete,

Excuse my dimwittedness, but exactly how do you use your old tires for "garage seating"?

Byhalia,

My garage is full of off-season car tires and bike tires that are too worn for the street but good for the drags.

Being anal, they're clean and in plastic bags and neatly standing in a row between a 2 by 4 frame that's perfect for people to sit on and drink beer at garage parties.

There's more than one way to get mileage out of tires.

poop man, mine's gone @ 4800 miles. I was hoping I'd get more than that out of it. Haven't even abused it!

Ha..Guess I'll try the beer can suggestion Dirty Pete.

I dont understand, i only got 2500 miles out of mine, i dont do burn outs or wheelies but i do a lot of highspeed turns and high speed straights..........

Vega, mine's gone in the center...cord is starting to show...even have what looks like a blister and I've never burned it. I also do a fair amount of high speed riding. I would be even more pissed than I am if I had only gotten 2500 mi. out of it.

I've had four other road bikes, but this is my first sport bike...am I being unrealistic with respect to tire mileage?

Anyhow, I have to get another tire and I'm leary about getting the Battlax again.

3000 miles and off the square bugger went.
Now? A 200/50 ZR-17 Pirelli Dragon Corsa.
I like it so far. Handles much better in the rear and i feel more confident in the twisties.
Will see how long it lasts
Bob

Bob, did you change the front as well? I had plenty of tread left on the front so I went ahead and ordered a Bridgestone for the rear....I want to buy the complete set next time. Let me know how the Pirelli does.
I also would like to know about Dunlops and Metzlers if anyone has tried them on this bike.

Lakeman, I have done 3,000 miles on a set of ME Z3s (regular, not race), including 240 miles on the track with those tires.

They stick much better than OE, especially in the rain.

The MEZ3 has a significantly rounder profile than OE, so you keep much more of the contact patch at extreme lean angles.

For what it's worth, I recommend them without reservation as a serious step up from OE.

Right now, for other reasons, I'm on a tx25 200 rear with the ME Z3 front. It's an even better combination for me because you get the great front stickiness in dry and rain, plus the awesome off-the-line acceleration of the 200 rear, and the tx rear slides a little more readily (better rider feedback) in corners than the ME Z3 did although much less than the OE Slipstone tire which was like riding on margarine.

Hope that helps your decision.

My problem is that the tyre (tire) suppliers in Ireland won't fit a tyre that's not rated for the bike which means I can only get the Bridgestone or the Dunlop. :-(

The MEZ3 sounds like just the ticket for my nice wet roads here. Is that the full designation? I might buy one and then try to get it fitted after by someone with the right equipment.

Sorehead: The correct tire name is ME Z3 Steel Radial. There is an ME Z3 Racing Steel Radial but don't get that except for exclusive racing use.

For more info go to www.metzeler.com, then select English, then Tire Range, then Super Sport.

Metzeler has a well-earned repution for wet traction. And BONUS...depending on your riding style the ME Z3s can return excellent longevity.

I can't believe Irish tire fitters would pull bullshit like that on people...forcing them to DIY or back alley fitters.

Can't you get the IRA to do something about that?
