8 mile oil change?

While re-installing my fairings after putting the new Brock's on, I just happened to notice that my bike has a build date of 07/08. I purchased it new in Nov. 09, and only put 8 miles on it, so by the time I start riding it in the spring It will be about 20 months old. That seems like a long time for the oil to sit in it. I'm thinking of changing the oil and not the filter, breaking it in for 600 miles and then doing a full oil and filter change. The answer seems obvious, but I need the org's opinion to sleep better at night.

Good idea, you may have a little oil oxidation with 20 months.

Should be ok, closed system and all. But definately wont hurt anything. I cant believe you haven't put any cold weather days in on it. You must have major self control. I rode mine home in the middle of snow storm because i couldn't wait. I dont recommend the snow part but riding in the cold isn't too bad, for the first few times.

So how do like your new brocks system? Considering getting one myself, but wondering if its really worth it for the bit of riding i do. Got the bike in Nov. of '08 and only have 1500 miles on her.

I hope you're joking. All bikes are ran on a dyno after assembly then after passing the specs the oil is drained and filter is changed. The dealer is the one adding oil after its shipped to the dealership. So basically the oil is new on your bike. Watch this: HowStuffWorks Videos "Twist the Throttle: The Kawasaki Motorcycles Factory" all bikes go through the same process.

All suzukis and kawasaki get shipped to the dealers full of Oil. I've worked part time at a dealer ship settting up new bikes for 6 yrs. maybe other countries get them with no oil but the us bikes have oil in them

The oil sits in the oil jugs forever.... not much of a difference. It is fine but if it makes you happy ...change it.

Never thought about that. My bike has same make date on it and i got it last August.
Hopped on it and rode. Did change it at 300 but that was it. She had sat inside in a showroom so I never thought about it.
But like others say. Seems like its already bothering you so buy some new oil and do it since its still apart. You'll sleep better tonight sounds like...

Worth it if you ask me.

Fast08, not saying you're wrong, but my K9 didn't have oil in it when I bought it new in Mansfield, Ohio. I asked them if I could start it and hear it run and they said it had no fluids in the bike yet, not even motor oil, so I'd have to give them about an hour to add all the fluids if I wanted to hear it run/test ride it.

I wouldent change the oil until it is fully broken-in.
New bikes usually have additives in the oil to help break them in.

The manual gives required maintenance for mileage and time. I believe for the first service the manual says 600 miles or 2 months, which ever happens first. I think you'll be okay doing an oil change. :beerchug:
