87 vs 91 octane in cali

whats best to run? i heard 87 in another topic and dealer and all the homies say 91? what is it????tell me i havent been wasting the extra 30 cents for PREMIUM octane for nothing...lol

A dealer once offered me some contact cleaner to clean my O-ring chain. I laughed so he offered me brake cleaner as an alternative. Guess they were out of stock on real chain cleaner! Had a discussion with his boss about that one but I don't know that there was any fallout over it.

lol wow.... you should have asked him where the muffler bearings and blinker fluid was at...
 
Well CA gas is oxiginated or some ****. So it's not the same as normal 87oct. Most people have to run 91 on performance 87oct engines.
 
Except on tour, all my gas is bought in California and I buy 89 octane. Never a ping or any other problem and certainly no reduction of power although I've never dynoed it using two different octanes. I have a stock 06.
 
Two things: 1) Go to another Dealer
                   2) Quit listening to the EXPERTS next door!

I use 87 and have NEVER had any problem. Remember 87 burns faster than 91, giving you better gas mileage. Besides thats what the STOCK engine was designed for

ok i just filled my tank with 87 lets see the difference
 
i been runnin' 87 here in cali for 33,000 plus miles tried higher octane but cant tell a difference

Yes CA gas does have some different additives in the mix...but you should try 87...unless you like to waste the extra $$$

Even when I lived in CA, I got better mileage with 87 than with 91. Octane is a measure of how fast the gas burns. The oxygenation doesn't do anything to the octane at all, if I'm not mistaken.

Yer better off with 87. However, if you have to choose between 86 and 88, go with the 88.

I tried some 87 about a week ago. I will never use it again, it was kinda bucking in the lower RPM's(under 3k)
 
Use 87 octane and 91 when the outside temp is averaging in the 90's and above.
