87 vs 91 octane in cali

(kairles @ Aug. 22 2007,00:49) I tried some 87 about a week ago. I will never use it again, it was kinda bucking in the lower RPM's(under 3k)
I'd be worried about something else being wrong with the bike if that's the case.

Remember, it takes a couple takes to completely clear out the other gas.

With the never ending quest for "More Power" you would think that they could get the clue

87 even in cali. Engines make peak power on the lowest possible octane level which they can burn and not cause predetonation. A lean engine will run harder than one running rich as long as your not getting any knock or pre ignition with the lean burn.

forgot to add the bucking on 87 sounds more like got bad gas or something in the gas. Run it in mine and never had a problem even in arizona on a 120 degree day.

someone else told me that, but it was from the same gas station I usually go too. maybe their tank was low and I got the nasty stuff at the bottom.

the bucking started when I had about 1/3 tank left. I went and toped off with 91 and after about 1/2 tank it went away

i always used 91 in all my bikes until i started reading this forum.
now i use 87 in EVERYTHING. no problems and i'm saving a little
$ too!
