About to buy an 08

Hi all. I am going to be buying a 2008 'Busa in a couple months when I get my finances and all sorted out. Prefferably the blue one. I have never owned a hayabusa, this will be my first one. However, I have some questions.

How reliable is the engine? I am a college student and do not want to be fixing it all the time as it will likely be my only vehicle for a few years. I will be using it for fun rides and for everyday transportation.

How much MPG should I get? Both wide open and babying it?

I saw the thread on new 08 prices, and spoke to a guy in Ohio. He quoted me $10,994 shipped to my door with temp tags and an Ohio title. I would then have to re-title it here, and pay tax. This would come to about 11,700 total. Is this a good deal? If I took this quote to my local stealer, how much do you think I could pick one up for?

I have owned other bikes, and have never done this method, but I learned about the MOTOTUNE method of breaking in an engine. If anyone is familiar with this method, would you suggest it for this machine, or do the factory break in? (for those of you unfamiliar with it, you ride it like you stole if for about 20 mins, then let it cool. Repeat a few times, for a certain number of miles, and then immediately change the oil and filter)

Buy it, buy it, buy it.

Oh, that's not your question?

Suzuki's are typically bullet-proof. Just perform the scheduled maintenance.

35-50 mpg.

Good deal, buy it.

Break it in per the owner's manual; that way if something goes wrong, you still did as you were told.

Buy it, buy it, buy it.

Be ready to respect the throttle, and fGs, HOLD ON!!!

Uh, what's your riding experience? If you're a n00b, rather than that break-in technique, just put a gun to your head now and get it over with.

If, as a college student, you're really wanting to avoid unexpected expenses, might want to budget for enough extended warranty to at least get your through school.

I think a Jet Y2K may be a better choise. Its a great bike to start out with. But all jokes aside all new Japanise bikes are great on MPG and all other crap. you will not have to fix much unless you mess around with stuff. And dont crash it. I have 7200miles on my 2008 Blue and nothing yet, just oil changes and time for a new rear tire, oh its stock tire right now. Ohh I get around 55MPG on the busa close to 60MPG when I rode to Los Angeles from Phoenix. And if you push it look at 25-30 maybe less maybe more. But its a best all around bike.

I get 44 mpg avg. 70% hwy 30% city. This is my 3rd Busa and all have been flawless. Very reliable and fun. Worst mpg I ever got was 40.

I'm only getting about 36 mpg, but I don't ride highways, mostly back roads in to work and back home. I don't ride overly aggressive but I guess my pace would be "moderate". I am usually well over the speed limit but I have ridden with guys WAY faster than me. I haven't kept track of mpg on the highway miles I did put on it but I seriously doubt I get 60 mpg. The thing about this bike is you will typically not want to be riding the speed limit. How many miles do you expect to be putting on it every day on average? How long is your commute to school? If I were going for just everyday transportation, MPG, and city transportation I'd have to say that a Busa would not be my first choice. If I were going for everyday transportation as well as planning on doing plenty of recreational riding, including longer road trips or all-day riding, I think the Busa is a great fit for that. But lets be real, people get the Busa for power, touring capabilities, and big grins, not strictly for running around town and going to school.

I could not bring myself to park a new Busa in a college parking lot !
I was thinking the same damm thing. I wouldnt be able to concentrate in class knowing my baby is out in the jungle. No way!

Good luck dude!

The Busa is the King of the Road. It is the beast that's always in front on the straights. It gains respect, but it does not care what gender, race, or age. You gain it when you give her 100% respect back. Your ego will get you in troubles you've never seen. Don't be stupid, think twice and always be scanning with your eyes. The Falcon is literally the best bike you will ever ride.

Hey guys. Sorry about no replies, but i have been having computer troubles lately. Thanks for all the info, it is all great and very helpful.
Yes, I know that a college lot is a sketchy place, but i plan on getting an alarm, and even chaining it to a pole, or my truck if need be. I will also keep it under a cover all the time, for the weather, but also hopefully it will conceal its identity a bit. I am not getting it as a daily ride around town commuter. I have had my eye on this bike for 4 years now, I fell in love with it and it instantly became my dream bike from the moment I saw it. I know it is a very powerful beast, but I think I can manage. My philosophy is that the bike is not dangerous, it is the rider that makes it a safe ride or not. A newb can hop on a little 125cc and kill himself just like any other bike. I always ride (relatively) safe, because you can die on any bike in an instant.
Anyways, enough safety crap. Another question. When you are riding, can you really feel the weight of the bike? Does it turn like a pig, or is it kinda nimble? My favorite riding is twisty mountain roads, is it any fun in turns?

true a 125cc bike can kill you but the busa is like a rocket at any speed. the acceleration on the busa is staggering and wonderful. it will get you into trouble so fast if you don't respect her.
as for turning and handling, the busa is light and nimble.
enjoy and be careful

Mototune usa! I use his break-in methods with all my new bikes. NEVER had a problem and all my engines were within spec at various intervals. The factory manual break-in is a liability disclaimer.

If you do use the mototune break-in method, follow it to the "T".
